I think you are right. These people didn't just appear because of Trump. There were there all the time. He just gave them legitimacy and a figurehead they all could recognise. Once they think he has let them down they will turn on him.

They're just going to need a new leader. I don't think any of the stiff characters like Cruz or Cotton will do. It will have to be someone that speaks with conviction of the bs they're spouting. But once they have that leader, then there will be some tale of how Trump was always controlled by the elites and they'll all buy into it.

I can't see it myself, they have too much invested in Trumpism and they need a third party with an established leader. There will have to be more conspiracy theories about how he was controlled and was trying to protect them, his family or whatever.

Lots of people voted for him in 2016 because they were fed up of the wars and that sort of thing and Trump promised he wouldn't get involved. To his credit he didn't do that but then messed up other things that was as dangerous as wars. The good thing is it also showed what would happen if you elect someone like him as POTUS.

Ted Cruz is too chickenshit to lead them. They see through him just like the rest of us do. Trump was one in a billion so I don't think they'll find anyone like him again soon. It's more likely that the repubs will find a moderate like Romney to get behind and the nutters will vote for him just because they can't stomach voting for a lib.

The only way Trump 2.0 happens is if the Republican party stays mostly whole, they can't afford to lose voters. Hawley will be remembered by the establishment for a while for his role. If he gets the nomination then sure, they'll suck it up and support him, but I foresee them doing everything possible to prevent that (same with Cruz)
