If Bernie doesn't run whoever he endorses will get a big surge. I just hope it isn't some opportunist but someone who has a record to look at of being on the same tone as Bernie.

Just please no Bernie, Biden or Clinton.

I also don't want Michelle Obama to run, because the press will ruin her, and she's too precious to deserve that.

I'm not so sure they will benefit much from Bernie's endorsement since its Bernie himself who is the attraction. He doesn't really have a movement to step up if he isn't in the race.

Warren matches him on Wall Street, but not on foreign policy. She supports him on healthcare and college tuition, but isn't so enthusiastic about it.
I don't know anyone else who has shown a sincere long-term commitment to any of his issues. Apart from her there is nobody with experience. The committed progressives are (at best) very newly elected mayors like Randall Woodfin.

About a year ago I would have said that even if Bernie is president, with slight Dem majorities in both chambers, I don't expect Medicare-for-all to pass. But the public mood seems to be shifting, and even the party is moving (at least in words) to his position now.

Love Bernie but at the same time I hate him. Endorsing Hillary and being part of a group that goes completely against what he believes in. A politician through and through. Hard to believe in him 100% when he just stays in his comfort zone.

Him joining the green party and running with Jill Stein as his VP for example would be a game changer.

Fair point. I'm concerned if he runs again he'll continue to be smeared from the liberal wing as well as the right whereas a younger protege wouldn't carry baggage from 2016. The movement he's leading shouldn't be Bernie or bust and I think he'll be the first person to say that but I recognize he is resented by some quarters of the democratic party.

Bernie would probably win against Trump. He's hard to attack so Trump would have a tough time going negative on him.

This is Trump we're talking about he always finds a way to low blow. With Bernie it'd be 'Commie', 'Socialist', 'Liberal' etc etc

Some people voted Hillary because of the way they forsaw the right wing media attacking Bernie.

This would've been a completely pointless move though because the Greens were clearly never going to come anywhere near winning. At best he'd have given Trump an easier path to the White House and at worst he'd have been a non-factor.

He was very different to Hilary but she was still far, far closer to him than Trump on most issues.

Yeah but for 2020?

It's gonna be the best chance ever in history for someone outside the duopoly to win the election.

Both Republicans and Democrats are a joke, both corrupted to the core.

Bernie would bring with him all his supporters and make a real difference. The sooner the better.

Hopefully he'll stand but presuming he does so as a Democrat, he'll naturally back whoever wins the Primary if it isn't him.

There's no such thing as outside the duopoly. Whoever wins will be either a Republican or Democrat, and as such, will subsume many of their policies.

Younger progressives with a message on health care. Kennedy maybe.

I think Kennedy definitely has a future, although he seems a bit young at this point. Personally, I think most people would take a term of Bernie after Trump, even if he doesn't accomplish anything and he's too old to run for a 2nd term.

True. Although Twitter will still be dominant for years to come.

Twitter will never overtake Facebook in user numbers. Facebook appeals to people of all ages, Twitter is the preserve of a certain swathe of the population. This is why Twitter sits at around 325 million users while Facebook is over 2 billion.

Yeah but Twitter is far more important to the political ecosystem in terms of instant information that goes viral. Most nodes in the network originate in Twitter and spread to other parts of the media landscape from there.

Politics will always be defeated by cat gifs.

For a serious discussion, if the Dems want to win, they need someone younger than Trump, vibrant and healthy, who isn't attached to any "names" or "dynasties", and of the ticket, at least one of the two has to be a women and/or a visible minority. But not both. The weird way politics works over there, you need to scoop up as many demographics as possible. You can't have another Hilary situation where she is writing books talking about how Trump intimidated her during the debates. Hence a strong young person, who can look Trump in the eye and stand face to face with him in a debate. And also perhaps, they should hire someone who knows how to run a campaign. Whilst Clinton is wearing 80's pantsuits and gladhanding with various celebrities, Trump was holding rallies in front of actual voters and campaigning directly in Dem terrority, which led to real actual gains on election night.

This is true to a degree although I don't think a member of the ticket absolutely has to be a minority. They just have to be well qualified and likable enough to not derail the main candidate they are supporting.

I think for example, a ticket of Bernie and Al Franken would be very strong.

Below are the Dems who support single payer, who would almost certainly have to if they wanted to be on Bernie's ticket

The Bern is definitely running in 2020. You don't go to Toronto for speaking events for no reason at all....

Voting for Hillary to avoid right wing media attacks is mental

Only retrospectively, at the time Sanders was perceived by many to be unelectable and perhaps was due to many American's perception of socialism. ,
I guess I'm viewing right wing media attacks as more than attacking the policies. All the conservatives I know target Sanders more on his policies-the more sensible ones appreciate his genuine nature. People despise Hillary Clinton in a far more emotive way. At least that's my experience

Probably because at the time he was only running against a Democrat. If he made the general election, he would've been hit hard from Trump.

Obviously, but never harder than Hillary... what would be the worst he could have come with? commie? socialist? Old?

Crooked Hillary was easily attacked from every angle possible and everything was pretty much true. She wasn't even able to defend herself and attack Trump.

So it's weird (and imo not true) that some democrats voted Hillary because Bernie was gonna be easily attacked, when the real easy target was always Hillary.

Trump called him Crazy Bernie, so that's likely a glimpse of what we would see in 2019/20

Bernie as a VP to a young buck and steering him/her on the points that made the younger generation really believe in Bernie last time might work.

I really like Sanders but he's just too old now.

Someone mentioned that the media would savage Michelle Obama and they probably would but something tells me she'd fecking love it and fight back. Imagine her in a debate with Trump. Barack might be reserved and a gent because Michelle is the real steel in that relationship. Something tells me she'd repeatedly tear Trump a new one over and over and over again.

Nope.

She hates living in the WH and the baggages that come with it. Talked through 8 years about wanting it to be over.

Besides, nominating yet another wife of former president, especially with her having no mainstream political experience besides, well, being the wife of the former president is a rather odd stance after what transpired last year.

I really doubt their family wants to go through any more of it.
