Just as we, as young people, learned about Shakespeare and read his wonderfully descriptive plays and their timeless, emotionally wrenching soliloquies with the fervour of a pious idealist but are left, as we age, with our only firm and lasting memory of this intellectual beauty, one line "To be, or not be," so, too, are debate audiences presented with aimless, flowery oratory filled with little substance and a lot of hot, blustery air. Rather than begin with a firm, clear and concise message, some speakers choose, nay, must, always must, speak and speak and speak, just to please themselves with a fetid and vainglorious chorus of their own making.
The is one of the fundamental problems with verbosity, my friend.
