2020 US Elections | Biden certified as President | Dems control Congress

How embarrassing would it be to have called Arizona, then called Biden as President Elect, only to have to retract because Arizona goes to Trump. I just don't get the Arizona call one bit.

The Arizona call after Fox was done by AP who have immaculate sources. They’d be practically certain of the result to call so early so in their minds saw no reason to hold back.

All blue apparently.

Slightly different answer to the question but echoes much of it. If you just take the % of the population that are non-white in each county, as opposed to who each person voted for, the demographics explain a lot of the voting in the South but a lot less in the north.

Minority population %:

Keep a system that benefits you.
I think that does not cover it sufficiently, If I remember correctly, average income was higher for Dems voters back in 2016, and your income is safest with the GOP. I mean, how does the GOP benefit all those unemployed miners that back them without any hesitation?

They don't have to cooperate but it would be incredibly unseemly and infuriating to a lot of people in both parties if they didn't.
I totally expect Trump to throw a major tantrum, refuse any cooperation in transition, and in fact sabotage it in whatever way he can. (Didn't Trump accuse Obama of doing a shoddy job at this?) I also expect that, despite that it would gain Trump nothing and not hurt Biden much, and would sabotage the country (providing issues for individual people), Trump's supporters would love it and see it as a great bit of revenge on Biden.

I also expect staff to try and do what they can in the meantime though - and I would be happy to be proven wrong, of course.

He promises them jobs

If Biden finishes more than .5% higher than Trump then there will be no automatic recount in PA. Trump will be able to request a recount, but he would have to pay for it himself (which given his history of being cheap is highly unlikely).

I suspect that Trump may not turn up for Biden's inauguration, and he will make sure that the handover will be as difficult as possible.
He may yank off the toilet paper holder in the bathroom and when Biden poops, he will realize that he has no toilet paper.

He won't. My bet is that he'll hold a rival rally at the exact same time, packed with Trumpite crazies all chanting "Lock him up" re. Biden

At what stage will networks feel comfortable with calling PA?

They still have PTSD from 2000 when FL was called early for Gore and then went to Bush.

At this point, once PA looks like its spiraling out of plausible mathematical reach for Trump, I think that will the signal to make the call.

Doubt it will be called tonight then.

What proper data would be available though? I don't suppose the US collect demographic data from voters, and exit polls are not necessarily properly representative of the actual voting population, and certainly not of every single county in the country.

You will get voting results by county and can then cross reference with county demographics. Not perfect because you can't tie a particular person to a vote, but you can make inferences based on them.

If I'm not mistaken is the margin for error extended to 1% if he pays? I.e. if he loses by more than 1% then he can't even pay for a recount?

CNN keep playing the same adverts
I've seen Julia Chatterley so many times. I'm not complaining, i'm just saying

The entire, vast funding of the US military is socialist - i.e. not funded privately, but paid for out of taxation and available on demand, free at the point of delivery.

Essentially, many republican voters don't even understand or know what socialism is - they just use it as bogeyman word.

Not quite the same. It’s easy to quantify taxation for protection as that protection covers the country.

A free public healthcare system rankles with people that are almost always healthy. “I’m paying for the alcoholic smoker next door”.

Socialism is a nonsense anyway. It’s not anyone’s goal. That socialism is a boogeyman and Capitalism is Superman is nuts.
