Perhaps it more the media's fault for constantly spamming polls into people's consciousness but it's quite clear there were 'polling errors' in 2016 and 2020. It's also clear that America is so split 50-50 in swing states, making a statement with a +/- 3 margin of error isn't really all that useful, yet these polls get spammed everywhere and many act like they are gospel.
Meanwhile, other useful metrics, such as focus groups and futures markets, get ignored even though they are also extremely useful data points that give insight from different angles than the constant stream of "pollsters". I had a look inside how these pollsters work in 2004, when DNC internal pollsters kept insisting they were going to win 2004 based on their models while ignoring what focus groups were saying and it really is frustrating how some of these pollster operatives work. They think their shite don't stink and spin it when they lose and lord it over people that take different approaches when circumstances fall into their favor. A lot of them need to eat a slice of humble pie and incorporate other approaches (like focus groups) in much greater capacity because the reality is, presidential elections in a place as diverse as the US have too many variables for them to capture with their models when elections are too infrequent to calibrate effectively.
