Clarification for the round 8 criteria
Any player you select must have appeared in one of the games during the tournament. Proof required.

Guess that pretty much rules out all the pre-90s versions as I can't seem to find the team sheets for them anywhere.

Well it turns out leaving it as it was originally caused too much room for discussion. This way it keeps it clear and concise.
The valid pick we have so far was also shown with a teamsheet from the games too, so it’s possible.
The rounds so far have also been fairly generous in terms of leaving pools of top players open.
It's there for the recent ones from 90s onwards, but the previous decades teamsheets are nowhere to be found.

In that list you can find out if he played in the Intertoto Cup, now click on the number of matches he played in the competition and you have an overview over all the relevant matches with direct links to the team sheets
Might be faster than going through every single line-up, but maybe I‘m just too lazy to find the real gems
