I love the Ryder Cup, one of the best sports events on the planet. Having grown up with teh American domination I have throughly enjoyed the last couple of decades. Its the one time I am 100% British/European and totally anti-American.

Hopefully the Euopean team will be winniong come Sunaday afternoon because I will be stuck in a sports bar on a cruise with a bunch of Americnas. :D

Europe in a cake walk.

The form of the tournement has changed so much over the years, from being US vs. Great Britain, to including Ireland then including all of Europe. I am thinking that with the way that Europe is starting to dominate it might be time for it to be Europe vs The Rest of the World. Though with the knock off Presidents Cup that is probably unlikely.

My local newspaper came out with its usual article about how much different the Ryder Cup is now because of how many of the Europeans play so many tournements in the US and many have houses in the US now. Same story they have been coming out with every Ryder Cup for the past 20 years or so.

I think the US have a shout this time around. They have a good core team, and decent young talent. They have a shot on home soil.

I reckon Europe will sneak the win. Would love to see Tiger & Rory face off against each other in the singles.

I can see Europe taking the lead early and the US to come back strong. Lots of question marks about the new members of the US team but I think they've picked well and might just sneak it.

I think the US will win. Medinah will be set up for the Americans, and rightly so. The big fairways and long course will suit them down to the ground. They have a lot of big hitters.

Some of the European players like Donald and Poulter especially could struggle. Length is needed over accuracy. It should suit McIlroy though.

It should be tight either way. I can't wait for it.

I think the Yanks will win too, the golf course is so long and there's hardly any rough. cnuts.

Yanks to win 15-13. The likes of Westwood and Donald haven't performed well enough on the big stage recently. If Europe are to win, McIlroy will be key, I'd fancy him to get at least four points.

The last one in America seemed to have a lot of rookies, such as Weekley (sp) and Holmes, who we've heard little of since, and I reckon they'll thrive on home support. Plus the course is well suited to them.

Yeah, they have really prepared it to suit themselves. Really hope it back fires on them. Some of the greens look like they have some wicked slopes. Going to be a great few days of golf.

I never take any notice of tour form for this. I think Donald is actually unbeaten in the fourball when paired with Garcia.

Im expecting Dustin Johnson to do well for the US. Far better player than he's shown over the last 12 months. His short game has improved a lot. The course is made for him imo. Fowler was sensational in defeat last time as well....

Really nice touch.

Ryder Cup form certainly is relevant, obviously, but at the same time, I wouldn't discount Tour form.

My ones to look out for:
Poulter - Fantastic Ryder Cup record, no love lost for Yanks.
Hanson - Don't know why, just got a feeling. The Scandies in general have a good Ryder Cup record for us.
McIlroy - Obvious reasons really. Expect him to learn from 2010.
Colsaerts - Seemed to have crept under the radar a little bit, can't say I know much about him, other than he's apparently a big hitter, which could suit this course.

Furyk - Been excellent on the big stage for the last year or two, very reliable golfer, good all round game, wouldn't expect him to get 'caught in the moment'.

But in spite of that, I reckon their players will just shade ours.

European foursomes pairings as expected really. Looking forward to the final one involving Poulter & Woods.

Watson, D Johnson, Mickleson, Bradley, Simpson, Woods, Dufner and Snedeker all hit the ball miles & miles. Europe have got McIlroy, Rose & Colsaerts.

Well I have sopcast downloaded to my phone. 7.30am start for the fourballs which is 1.30pm here (i think)

Only one group out and the chants of USA...USA.. are nauseating.

Well the home ground have gone a little quiet with Europe up in all four matches.

I'm not going to make out like I'm anywhere near the top pros, but Christ, some of the golf you see under pressure in this competition is amazingly bad. Barely anyone even threatened the fairway off the first.

Doesn't that show you the pressure they're under though? They go from playing for themselves, and I suppose their fans, the people who've backed them; they're certainly not pressure-free. But all of a sudden you're playing for your country/continent.

Shaky opening few holes for Europe, but rallied round magnificently. Loving it already.

But pressure is pressure for me, whether it's in a team or for yourself. At this level too, you're supposed to be like a metronome. Even the top pros hit poor shots, but rarely anything quite that bad.

We've pulled it round though as you say, and we're looking good. Great competition to watch.

:wenger:

Its a completely different game when they have teammates and a continents expectations on their shoulders. You hit a bad shot in a normal tournament and the only person that cares is you but in the Ryder Cup there is 100 times the pressure.

I'll take the point.

Donald proceeds to lose with Garcia and loses his perfect record in foursomes. Donald is very unpopular among his fellow pros from what I've heard. No-one likes playing with him.

You see constant interviews with players who have been in the Ryder Cup and to a man they all talk about how much bigger the pressure is on every single shot they take when compared to even major tournements.

The difference in scoring, playing for your country/continent, etc. All seems to add up to more pressure for them.

Good start really in the end for Europe. It looked dodgy for a while after starting off well. I am very surprised Westwood is out in the fourballs, he looked fairly poor.

Why, what's the story with Donald? He comes off pretty well in interviews, etc and seems fairly likeable. What am I missing?

Why isn't Arseboy Poulter out again? He was one of the better players in the morning.

Yanks dominating right now. Some unbelievable shots.
