1st man to score a double hundred in ODI cricket.

So does anyone dare to compare this significance to other great feats in other sport?... Wilt Chamberlain scoring 100 points or Kobe Bryant scoring 81 in a game for example?

I'm gutted Saeed Anwar's record against the Indians is broken. I always knew it would be with the state of pitches as they are becoming but thought it would be some rookie. Thankfully, it was the most deserving guy - Tendulkar.

Come on Afridi, you know you want it next! :D

I'm not blaming him for the WC defeats, just saying the hype is not justified.

Football is definitely more of a team game than cricket. For instance Sachin's performance today basically guaranteed us a win. Individuals have far more impact in cricket.

And Argentina have produced some fantastic defenders. Again you're missing the point I didn't say it was Sachin's fault that we don't have bowlers. He's a great guy by the sound of things, but India as a nation are too obsessed with him.

You're clueless.

He's the greatest cricketer the modern game has seen. An utter genius at 18 as well as 36. The roger federer of our sport if you will. But yeah let's play him down because someone has to have an opposing opinion right?

One of the few men alive who make me truly proud to be an Indian. His genius is out of the ordinary.

Limited over cricket is all about runs mate. Thats what majority of the people want to see..

To be fair, that's bollocks. Flat pitches have virtually killed the game, certainly the limited overs stuff. But heh, if people want to see 400+ on the flattest of flat pitches, good luck to them. It's one of the reason why I don't bother with the game anymore. Nah, I like to see a healthy contest between bat and ball.

Who cares?

It's only fecking cricket.

I agree. Which is what I want to see too. I would rather see a batsman work his way to a 100 on a green top in test match than say some bits and pieces cricketer smashing a 100 in T20 match. Which is why I hardly watch cricket anymore.

But the point I'm trying to make is thats not what the majority of people want to see. Which is why the game is always revamped with new rules to facilitate a batsman now. Bowlers are given diddly squat. But hey, thats what sells and in order for the game to thrive on 3 fronts now, the people on top of the cricketing tree have to give the people what they want. Not neccesarily whats good for the game.

The emergence of 20 over cricket is evidence enough.Which not only reduces the contest between bat and ball but also sets a similar precedent for the other formats. Also boosts the value of the average cricketer. Shorter the game gets, the less skilled a player needs to be now.

I'm quite happy to see more T20s as long as it means fewer ODIs. If they only played three match ODI series, I might actually bother to watch them. Otherwise, it's just a year round dirge in which they take an outmoded form of a form of the game's that's drained entirely of the drama of a test match and the excitement of a T20, and deliver it to us in seemingly endless seven match series.

As long as they keep playing 10-15 tests a year I'm not arsed.

And I'm glad it was Tendulkar who got the first ever ODI 200. He's a supreme cricketer the likes of whom we'll have to wait at least a generation to see again.

That said, nothing will ever compare to Anwar's 194, which was a phenonomonal knock in an era in which 250 would put you in the box seat in an ODI.

Then again, Wisden seems to have found four ODI knocks that compare favourably to Anwar out of matches played up to 8th Feb 2002

That's based on strike rate. Richards's knock was immense.

And South Africa have posted a monster score apparently.
