Television 1899 | Netflix | From the makers of Dark, dropped by Netflix

What do you make of the symbology?

The triangle with a line through it represents human knowledge bigger part of the triangle being what we don't know or can't perceive in line with Plato's cave allegory.

The rest I can only hazard a guess

Prometheus either represents the striving of human advancement or a punishment

The Black substance is representative of brain disease or a toxic mindset

The pyramid?

That a 6 year old made it.

I like the ships. And what the hell were you expecting from the creators of Dark? The acting is poor because the non English actors are struggling with a foreign language. But yeah it's not that bad....in a watchable I wonder what's going on to happen next way.

The ships are excellent though. Both inside and out.

I think the acting was OK, the only non-native with a prominent speaking role in English is the captain. His English is good as far as I can tell, although it's hard to gauge when they're performing rehearsed lines. I'm not sure whether his language ability reflects his acting ability.

Perhaps some German speakers who have watched him in other series can say if he's good or not. He wasn't that prominent in Dark as far as I recall.

I always find it harder to judge actors in other languages because I'm usually focusing on the subtitles. Obviously you can tell a bit but some probably get away with stuff because we've got no idea what they're saying or whether it's the right intonation in that language.

It looks pretty good and all, to be fair. The music/sound track can be a bit ropy and all. But it's(series) not as bad as being made out.

It's when they speak English. The English speaking actors naturally look more comfortable speaking English but non natives have struggled. They look far better in their native tongues - which is normal.

I wasn't too fond of the Danish actors. Mainly because I couldn't hear what they were saying very well.

I watched some of the behind the scenes stuff on Netflix which is actually quite good. And the set is pretty cool.

I speak some Danish and I found them really difficult to understand without subs even in easy sentences.

I understood the Spanish actor better and I have a very basic knowledge of Spanish.

But only a few of them played characters with any sort of fluency in English? Only Eyk was supposed to be fluent, I think.

I'm up to about episode 6 I think and I still can't decide if I like it or not.

I'm enjoying this. I've got three episodes left to watch. Still expecting it to go to pot but heh. But yeah I suspect there's loads of symbolism involved @horsechoker

About that finale
I was expecting some sort of matrix operarion but the way it was portrayed doesnt make much sense. If the passengers were in long term stasis (months , years ) then they'd need feeding tubes and similar for the outer products as well. The only way it could work as portrayed is if it is some sort of Inception inspired dream within dream which causes experienced time to be much longer than elapsed real time. Or, the spaceship is also a simulation.

you're right, it might be a plot hole or they explain it away like there's some robot that feeds them.

I think the second season will revolve around the spaceship and that it’s also a simulation.

Dark is better.
I agree but I think Dark benefits from coming first. Dark arrived on the scene with no expectations, 1899 is always going to have to live up to people's high expectations which inevitably leads to being underwhelmed.

I enjoyed that. I think everyone expected the whole Matrix thing. I actually think they were influenced by Red Dwarf's Back to Reality. Is it a possibility that there's no Earth and everyone's living in a fake reality on a spaceship somewhere?

Seeing Maguire play for us - yeah.

Just watched the final episode and WOW what a show! It has of course the Matrix vibes but i believe Christopher Nolan would be proud if he is watching it couse its more in the Interstellar and mostly Inception breed. Its absolutely brilliant and i loved the story, the cinematography and the acting..10 out of 10.
