100 Best Video Games of All Time

The point is here that the vast majority of people are not positng anything about games before 1990.

I understand that you only really know stuff in your lifetime, so maybe someone should change the title of the thread?

instead of bitching about it, you should educate the youngsters on the games you believe are worthy!

would have to give some serious thought to compile a proper list but here are some of my favorites:
street fighter II
sensible soccer
arkanoid
tetris
mario kart
pang
bubble bobble
rainbow islands
kick off

I already have done if you had bothered to read newbie! I was simply making a comment that the average age of the people here and the games they were talking about.

i have seen what you have to say - no need to play the 'newbie card'!

so how do we go about putting together a definitive list?
whats the format for the previous all time lists that have been done on the Caf?

I think that if you wanted to do this correctly, it would have to be split into genres and types, and maybe even machines.

I still stand by it though, Bubble Bobble is the best game ever made.

Surely we have one or two lads besides Weaste who were around at the time of the really old school games?

I started playing games at a pretty young age, but it was still about 94, 95-so thats a lot of games that I wasn't around for.

1) Zelda - A Link To The Past
2) Little Big Adventure 2
3) Fallout 2
4) The Longest Journey
5) CM4
6) Kings Quest Series
7) Theme Hospital

Actually I think genre's might be the way to go, and as someone else suggested maybe something like 20 instead of 100. On the other hand, point and click games, for example, really aren't around much these days, so you would still probably have the problem with posters being too young.

You're best doing the best say 5 games for each console, and then everyone can vote for their favourite out of the most popular 5 chosen, and then when each console has their number 1 game, everyone can vote for their favourite out of those.

Alex Kidd was brilliant, I've never completed it though cos it's on the Master System and you can't save where you're at.

Lost Vikings, Area 88 and Pocky & Rocky were some of my favorites on the SNES.

I totally forgot about that game - it was amazing

This for the Amstrad or Commodore was funny at the time

Starcraft
Wonderboy in Monsterland

Grand Theft Auto Vice City
Goldeneye
Star Wars Battlefront II
Tie Fighter

Agree with everything on this list except that(and the absence of Gunstar Heroes) Mario Kart n64 is the worst version of Mario kart ever.

I agree. Double Dash, for me, is the best version. I know that's probably not the most popular choice either. I like the Wii one, but haven't played it enough yet to properly rate it. SNES is an all-time classic, but isn't as good years later.

Some of my favourite games:

GoldenEye 007 (N64) - number 1 every time
Super Mario 64 (N64)
Super Street Fighter II Turbo (SNES / Arcades)
X-Men vs. Street Fighter (Saturn)
Tetris (Game Boy)
WWF No Mercy (N64)
FIFA 2005 (Gamecube)
Mario Kart: Double Dash!! (Gamecube)
Super Smash Bros Melee (Gamecube)

Those spring to mind, I'm sure I'll think of more.

Some may not be the greatest, but these are the ones that vividly stick out in the memory.

ARCADE

Pac-man
Space Invader
Street Fighter 2
Pong

AMIGA

Escape From The Planet Of The Robot Monsters
Sensible World of Soccer
New Zealand story
Lemmings
Pang
Rainbow Island
Final Whistle
Speedball (can't remember if it was 1 or 2, either way it was a great game)
Micro Machines
Warzone
Supercod
Wheels of Fire: Turbo Out Run
Double Dragon (Can't remember the version I played)
A flight sim game, think it was F29, something like that

NES
Super Mario Bros

GAMEBOY

Tetris

SNES
Super Bomber man 2
Super Mario World
Mario Kart
International Superstar Soccer Deluxe(having played it recently its pretty poor actually, but still great at the time)

N64
GoldenEye
Mario 64
Mario Tennis
Zelda: Ocarina of Time
International Superstar Soccer 64 (same as ISS Deluxe)

PS

Gran Turismo
Pro evolution 2
Tekken
Metal Gear Solid

GC

Resident Evil 4

PC
GTA vice city
Battlefield 2

If I was to be pushed on a favourite, I would have to say Zelda: Ocarina of Time. :)

Another classic I forgot:

Sonic CD

The best Sonic game ever. Thats what I tell myself anyway to justify buying the Mega-CD.

Some great games being mentioned, but I think people should think about the test of time with these games also.

Is a game great because nostalgia, or truly great? On the flip side, people also tend to include recent games that they've played because they are fresh in their mind.

A bit of thought is required here.

Not a game-geek, but some I've gotten into down the years:

Theme Hospital
Commandos: Behind Enemy Lines
The Getaway
Mario Kart
Bomberman
Worms
Speed Freaks (racing game on the original PS - probably not well known but great for multiplayer)
GTA Vice City
Sensible World of Soccer
