10 Times United deals have been hijacked

Fergie's dilly-dallying and refusal to pay up due to 'no value in market' cost us many top players. But he more than made it up with his relentless winning streak.

Yeah, he got more out of what he had, but he could've had more. Figure Hazard probably gets us another CL in the cabinet, instead of SAF missing out on his last campaign. Heck, maybe he stays another year after seeing Hazard being all that.

Hazard and Thiago hurt me the most by far.

Totally agree. Frigging Moyes with his dithering. Didn't know what to do with a big checkbook, and then pays more for Fellaini than he had to. That window should've alerted us to his failings (small time).

Ronaldinho would have been incredible! What a sight that would have been.

I think of all of those, the only one that impacted the success of the club was Hazard and Thiago. We today lack an attacking creative spark, these players would have provided that.

I'm glad those Mikel and Ramsey deals got hijacked tbh.

Hazard, Thiago and Robben, what a shame. I can say we didn't miss Robben much, though but Hazard and Thiago would have been magnificent for us nowadays.

Thiago is the one I am most annoyed about.
However....he may have improved us so much in the middle of the park that it could have meant another year or two of Moyes. Every cloud and all that :)

This is just silly coming from a United fan. Your players get paid a metric ton of money. There's no way you can play the 'poor us they won't join us cause were poor' card.

Well...They're paid more than most, of course.

But not what I was trying to say - I think of those that we have missed out on, probably the majority chose their new club for a higher salary.

Some no doubt ' to avoid ' living in NW England compared to Barcelona or London, but as SAF allegedly said about Pogba when he went to Juventus.

' If he's chasing money, he's stupid - if you're good enough, the money will chase you'
or words to that effect.

Does Sanchez count? Or he doesnt cause he chose Arsenal over us since they had Champions League football?

The Ramsey one was the worst, even the club website had said we'd signed him.

How did Ballack get hijacked if he didn't even have discussions with Sir Alex?

One thing I observed, jose mourinho likes to hijack deals and buy players. Be it obi Mikel or varane or ballack or Zouma or Pedro or willian or even the controversial Ashley Cole saga. I always feel he has a knack of screwing other teams. Hopefully we see that more now. I don't know why but I sense some big surprise is there for us this summer. I can't imagine us having a dud summer transfer window.

Although you have a valid point but I clearly remember we were strongly linked to ballack and at one point we were clear favourites to sign him. Especially after the ill timed departure of roy Keane in late 2005.

I am still in the opinion that missing out Griezmann this season will hurt us more compared to missing out on those players at those times. I have a feeling that Griezmann is our make or break to the title.

With the Robben transfer, Chelsea didn't even know who the hell Robben was at the time. That Chelsea team was stacked in depth, they just bought him just to feck us over.

Hazard and Robben were probably the most disappointing for me.

Not true. Ranieri scouted Robben several times and actually recommended the club to sign Cech, Robben and Drogba. He was later replaced by Mourinho, so he never got to use him

Wasn't there more to the Ronaldinho story than him just choosing Barca over us?
I'm sure i read Kenyon messed it up and tried to lowball PSG or something like that.
The story is that we got a deal for 29m euros, but then Kenyon made an official offer of 28m or so, knowing that it is still higher than what Barca offered (27m). PSG refused our offer, accepted Barca's and the rest is history.

It worked well in the end, and Cristiano gave us three great years (in addition to three excising years), but on those three years until Cristiano became world class, we were very noncompetitive for the big trophies, and that wouldn't have happened with Ronaldinho. Having both him and Cristiano, would have been something special.

Yeah its always interesting that people say we wouldn't have got Ronaldo if we had Ronaldinho but I can imagine the impact Ronaldo made in that preseason friendly would have seen us buy both.
