1 defeat in 7 games - are we improving?

Yes we're improving. He's finally shifted out the problem players and got the CB pairing he needed last season, Maguire and Evans, along with the CM he needed in Mainoo and Eriksen. I can only see great things from here on out.
A lot of truth in that. Also it’s well and truly put the kibosh on all the naysayers and doom mongererers who reckon we need to spend billions to get back to the top.

Central defence sorted = check
Midfield sorted = check
Total cost = 0 pounds

Also another kibosh on all those who criticised Erik’s wanton spending. It’s now clear he was happy not buying anyone.

His tactic of subbing off attacking players when we need a goal has really got me believing

Let's be honest, it's hard to imagine a season going worse than the last one. A cup win does little to change that. For a club of our stature, having invested over £600M in transfers, finishing 8th with a negative goal difference is simply unacceptable. Last season should not be the standard we measure ourselves against.

We have 3 points less then we did in the corresponding fixtures last year, and have scored 6 fewer goals.

So no - we're definitely not improving.

We've never been more shit.

Well we have, 30 years ago or something

Everyone hoped Ten Hag when he took over could lead us to a Championship, well he might lead us to The Championship.

It'd be funny to know the thoughts of the people who've been blaming it all on players for years and refusing to attribute much if any responsibility to the manager. Virtually a new squad now and we're rapidly getting worse.

Add in the fact that in his hour of need he relied on Rashford, Fernandes, Dalot, Maguire and Lindelof. 5 of only 6 players at the club he hasn't signed or promoted.

Played Liverpool, Spurs and Villa. 2 of them at home (humiliated in both). It’s not fecking good enough. We still look toothless in attack. Still have little control in games. There’s a few signs of us getting better (clean sheets) but then we fail to score simple chances to actually win a game. Still rely on Bruno or Rashford to come up with magic. It just looks as disjointed as it has the last 2 years.

This is a fecking joking thread right? Why there are some posts being serious?

I believe we have a really good chance of finishing top 10.

If you flip the League table, yes, you can see our position is improving.

He finally shifted out players... in order to win less points

We are clearly not improving and any claim that we are is pure delusion. That said, it may well be that we’ve hit rock bottom and the improvement that we’ve all been waiting for starts with our next match.

It may take some time give the number of wholesale changes throughout the club, from backroom to players. That may be the reason for not sacking ETH.

3 defeats in 7 games
14th
-3 gd
£600m spent

Yeah definite improvement….

I would sack ETH now and take the time required to hire the new permanent manager. Ruud can handle the job of interim manager, if that I have no doubt whatsoever. But I would like to see the new manager appointed before the January transfer window.

Uncorroborated, but I read a disturbing report in The Times this morning that quite a few of ETH’s buys are represented by the same agency his son works for.

The last 6 PL matches have had an average points of 0,83 pr match, which is relegation form.
This is the lowest points avg he's had over any running 6 game period in the league, so we are definitely not improving. Even more worryingly is that its the 3rd time he's had such a low avg. points over a 6 game span.

Hard to say we're improving but the result against Villa in isolation wasnt a bad result, we'd have taken that on another day, its the other games before that where its been difficult to accept.

Why would you strip out the Fulham win with a clean sheet in the first game and just look at the last six though? Cherry-picking data to suit your agenda. Another clean sheet yesterday too.

Ok, lets include the Fulham game then. A mighty 1,14 points pr game or 43 points in a season, barely above relegation form. I'd say perfectly reasonable for the money spent.

Only 2 times have he had a worse form over 7 games, december of 2023 and march to may 2024 where he had 0,9 points pr game over a 11 game period.

Calling out that a manager for a top-club should never touch that poor of a form, never mind 3 times within a calendar year is not an agenda.

No. Season soon over. And it’s early October.
This is madness. We are on 8 points, 6 points off CL places with 93 points left to play for...

Change is needed but the season is far from dead for any team.

It was tongue in cheek, I was referring to the problem players from the last few games that are his signings ie De Light, Martinez, Ugarte, Zirkzee. I'm pointing to the fact that he now seemingly trusts the same players he complained about last season, more than the guys he's spent a small fortune on.

Remember this absolute disrespect? Funny how quickly things change ey. He's a lucky guy that these players still turn up for him.

Villa were there for the taking yesterday. ETH had decided our our plan was not to lose

I never seen that, I haven't been able to listen to him stumble through English interviews for months. What a dick thing to say, and now he's turned to those players for help again. What an absolute fool this man has made of himself.

Also listening to the level of his English after 2+ years of living and working in England is also quite something. Jose learned Italian in the Milanese dialect in 2 months before taking over Inter. Van Gaal lived in a German monastery for 6 weeks before taking over Bayern so it would force him to learn German. Doesn't seem like Erik's even taken one lesson to improve his English. I can remember that was one of Spurs concerns about him and why they passed on him.
