£20m Summer Transfer Budget

The state of this thread

We are negotiating for De Jong, we were negotiating for Nunez and we were interested in Timber, and yet we were supposed to sign these players with only 20 mil?

Feck, build Murtough a statue next to SAF cause this is GOAT tier negotiation then.
Unfortunately we can't field a team of players we were "interested in". Where is the evidence that we do have a substantial budget to actually finance a "rebuild"

I think you’ll have to wait till Q2-2022 results come out (Aug/Sep) and compare them to previous quarters … if it looks like the Balance Sheet is being cleaned up - lesser short term liabilities, lower operating costs, lesser investment in long term sssets and hence lower depreciation, etc - it may indicate that the Glazers are ready to sell.
Typically cleaning up a Balance Sheet takes a few quarters.
A low net transfer spend (including contracts expired) may not be such a bad thing for United fans over the medium term.

The evidence is in the fact that De Jong will cost 80 million and we are in advanced negotiations. We were in advanced talks with Nunez as well in before Liverpool offered a better bid. Timber is another one that we were interested in until he decided to stay at Ajax.

And these are just the players that have been linked to us via tier 1 journalists. I'm willing to bet there are others right now that we are looking at or willing to negotiate.

The notion that we are suddenly skint is absolutely idiotic if you simply take a look at our last 3 transfer windows.

Goes to show most of the time the press don't have a clue and just pick a clickbait headline that will get people to read the article

And the worst thing is that some of our fans are gullible enough to believe this kind of shite

It was obviously nonsense. As was the 120m thing. The club are not stupid, they know the market they are operating in. We just finished 6th, got a new manager in, and there was never any way we'd give him just 120m with the level of investment needed in this current market.

We just need these signings to work now. If they are all successful, then it has been a fantastic window of incomings. Two more windows and we could well have the makings of a title challenging side, but if this lot are a success, then we certainly have a top 4 level side at least. Although 6 teams have top 4 level sides so there is also that.

We can do things in the transfer market that other clubs can only dream about - Woodward.

We may aswell try and get relegated to take advantage of those baloon payments.
I believe every word of that.

Every word.
It won't be 20 million but I do think it's very likely we have a worse team next year in paper than what we have now.
We don't have megamillions to spend, but I'd be expecting a net spend of £75m or so.

£20m would be rather low, given that we won't recoup much in sales.
I very much doubt anyone believes it.

I'd expect (hope) this will be the biggest summer spluge in the history of our club, especially with the £70 million a year saved through players leaving/released.
‘‘WE CAN DO THINGS IN THE TRANSFER MARKET THAT OTHER CLUBS CAN ONLY DREAM OF. WATCH THIS SPACE’’.
Looking at free transfers and can’t afford a £30m release clause for a Wolves reject

Looks like this was true after all @Blood Mage
It's not £20m

But £50m might be realistic....

So when do the Glazer our riots start? October? This is not sustainable. I sense misery.
It will obviously be more than £20m but less than many think. Blowing CL put us in a big hole.

Some embarrassment for the above posters here..

Other than @Random Task who I quoted as he was quite accurate in his assessment

Others. Take note!

I’d congratulate the club as it seems they did a fairly decent job of briefing we didn’t have any money. But it doesn’t seem to have had any effect whatsoever on the prices we paid.

Can’t believe some deluded folk actually believed this nonsense!!!…I checked the thread to make sure I wasn’t one of them.

Harry Kane, Declan Rice, Yves Bissouma and Jurrien Timber lead Erik ten Hag's list of transfer targets

That alone should've told you this wasn't worth a thread.

Might have been a silly attempt by the club to put it in the press we're skint to undo some of the inflation caused by Rangnick telling the world every week for 6 months that we need a completely new team.

Tongue in cheek comment is considered embarrassing? Geez man, you must have saved these ready to defend your hero Murtough?

On a more serious note, we've spent crazy money this summer, surely teetering on the FFP radar considering the players that left have mostly been on a free.

I don't think our squad is that much better than it was this time last year.
You got to remember that this time last year Greenwood wasn't a known criminal, Cavani wasn't a waster etc etc.

Although this summer has turned out better than I thought it would I'll admit. We still got a lot of holes in the team of course so let's just hope our overspending in certain players doesn't come out of next summer's budget.

Net spend of £203.87m so far, according to Transfermarkt. That must be the most we have ever spent in a single window!

The football club who cried wolf

Selling clubs will be rinsing us even more now
