Thoughts on Tuchel as a potential United manager?

Would you appoint Thomas Tuchel as the next Manchester United manager?

To all the people saying Tuchel is a good short term solution - Has he ever left a club in a better state than when he was hired? Genuine question. This should be one of the most prioritized ability of a new coach.

Why is that so funny
Because everyone in here had decided that he is unfit for this club because he was so incredibly stupid and negative for taking them off

turns out they were injured so couldn’t carry on. Just thought it was the perfect example of the kneejerk overreactions in here

Musiala and Kane went off in minutes 84 and 85.
So after all the time wasting which they were clearly playing for from about 70 mins, still 20 mins before the final whistle then?

If it’s true about injuries, then fair enough to an extent..

But I felt it in real time. They weren’t even particularly under the cosh when they made the first sub. If anything, they were looking more dangerous than Real.

But as soon as he made the first change, i thought “oooo that’s risky”

And then when the others were made I thought “that’s just asking for trouble”

And I was proved right. It wasn’t in hindsight. It was pretty predictable.

Which would have probably seem the game out had Neuer not gifted them a goal? Then what? This played would of been filled with people saying how tactically astute he is

What? The +9 was added on afterward when goals were scored and multiple VAR checks happened.

Sure, if you think he’s lying that they came off due to injury / cramping and are just looking for confirmation bias.

Tbf Carlo Ancelotti once lost a CL final 3-0 up. Guardiola's City let a lead go to this Real Madrid team in the dying minutes a few years ago. The margins at highest level are really fine - and even the best feck up occasionally. I'd say his 2 CL finals and 1 win gives him enough credit in the bank to mark this one as an anomaly.

Lots of ifs and maybes there. I think Madrid would have scored at some point. It was inevitable.

How can’t people understand that going to a deep shape away from home, when you aren't even particularly under pressure, only a goal up, with 20+ mins to go, is going to invite more pressure and shots on goal from dangerous areas?

Exactly the kind of circumstance that led to the Neuer mistake.

The mind boggles.

why can’t you understand that the shape of the team had absolutely no bearing on Neuer making that mistake?

What if Bayern caught them on the break and scored? And if Muller hadn’t of played an awful pass by the way they probably would of, football at this level is the smallest of margins and it’s easy to criticise after the benefit of hindsight

Forget the Kane and Musiala subs for a second.

If united were in a cup semi final. A goal up. In our typical shape. And on 75 mins ETH takes off Garnacho from the wing to bring on Lindelof to put into a 5 man defence.

And we go on to lose that game without the game needing to go to ET, he would be getting absolutely chewed out by everyone on here, and I’d hazard to guess by you also.

How is this not the exact circumstances of what we just watched?

Look, it's either him or Southgate

I for one welcome our new German overlord.
Why though? Why is that the choice seemingly forced on us.

If that's the best INEOS can muster then I have serious doubts about their capabilities going forward.

I can't think of any away team who would be brave enough to set up to attack Real Madrid in a CL semi-final at the Bernabeu at 1-0 up with 20 min to go.

You can try it of course, but I think it's suicidal.

Yeah, can we not just interview a number of candidates and see how they fit in with the ethos of the new lot? If Tuchel is they best one they interview, fine, I'm just pretty down on the "find the most obvious guy and hire" approach.

As if people are blaming this on Tuchel.

Neuer fecked it up by dropping an easy catch.
I knew his critics would turn on him if the result went against Bayern tonight. So that's his name scratched off the list in the eyes of many then. I will admit he made a mistake taking off Kane and Sane, was he asked about this in the post match interview?

You could bet the CAF would have been waxing lyrical about him had Bayern prevailed tonight, unfortunately we are now going to hear him get it both barrels for the loss instead.

There's barely any difference between the 3.
Absurd opinion.

Even forgetting their relative abilities. One of them has won a Champions League and 3 b-tier league titles, the other two have won nothing of note (Eredivisie and a league cup is not of note)

Tuchel is miles from perfect but that's another thing that appeals to be honest. He'll be easy to sack when someone better comes along when the squad has a less hellish composition.

Southgate and Ten Hag are like barnacles clinging to the hull of a ship when you want rid of them. Tuchel literally punches the CEO and walks out the door.

No. He's an incredibly overrated manager who has benefited from some impeccable timing and a hefty new manager bounce at Chelsea. He's achieved very little that makes him qualified for a job like ours.

Because Ten Hag couldn’t get us through the CL group, never mind getting to a semi final of the competition.

Chelsea were in a pretty good state until Boehly showed up.

Wouldn’t be my choice as a replacement.

But, it all depends on how INEOS wants to run United. If they do want to keep a manager in a bubble as just a coach, while they sort everything else themselves then I can see it happening.

But I believe INEOS will need a year to fix everything in house, before they can appoint just a coach.

When you hear the other names being mentioned, Tuchel sounds like a God send.

So that is why England and Spurs won so many titles. Because managers never subbed Kane off.

Sane is just back into the side & not fully fit yet. I mean, you’re 100% doing the hindsight bias thing right now.

Tuchel would be a sideways step in my opinion so no from me.Would rather give ETH one more chance and a clean slate for the start of next season then part ways within a couple of months if no improvement.

I can see you debate in ifs and maybes but the facts of what happened are… Tuchel changed the shape, Madrid attacked a lot and an error happened which led to a goal being scored by a striker that had been brought on as a sub.

Knew this nonsense would start if bayern lost tonight. The fact is he is going to be at the very top of list of managers available. You might have different preferences but based on reality and ability there are few if any better managers available right now.

Hopefully now Bayern have nothing to play for, we can sack Ten Hag and get Tuchel as soon as possible.

The competition is irrelevant…

If it was an FA cup semi against a decent prem team… the comparison still stands.

It’s the instinct to make that type of change that puts fans off.

Anyway, l’m not even saying I don’t think he’d be an improvement….

It’s just such a stupid binary argument, that you either need to think he is clearly the best thing since sliced bread, or atrocious.

Better than what we’ve got? Probably.

Those types of defensive instincts in that type of scenario a worry if he did come in? Also, probably.
