For me it goes too far. It gets to the stage of "cr7" or similar nonsense which makes me physically sick. I don't know the person, so I refer to them formally (by their second name in colloquial usage).
Zlatan is the only player whose first name I'd consistently use, but that's different. Firstly because Zlatan, secondly because Ibrahimovic is a chore to say or type.
As I said there are people who do believe that. I can accept that.
I call everybody that I meet by their first name and accept them doing it to me even if they are my ultimate boss, someone who works under me or a server at Costa/Starbucks.
How about Ronaldo? Did you call him that or dos Santos Aveiro?
