We really don't play well against teams that press us. Our ability to keep possession is fecking whack. We're genuinely looking like Huddersfield looked like last night against Liverpool. You'd think Pogba and Matic would be smart and use their physique to shield the ball - and they're not bad on the ball either. Then we have Martial and Lingard who can dribble - so obviously they have good technique - therefore, they should be able to hold the ball and release it with ease you'd think. Really fecking shite.

    Terrible first half.
We should have come on with 3 in the middle(Herrera or Fellaini for Lingard). Don't understand this lineup.

Both goals our fault which is just as frustraring as the City game. We seem to always ruine it for ourselves.

jones awful, Young awful, Sanchez is unvisible just as Pogba andMartial. And what can Lukaku do when all of our midfielders look like crap? They didnt creat half a chance for him to score.

Hopefully Jose does something incredible in the dressong room to turnthis around. Spurs arn't playing great and if we score a quick one we can maybe get a point in here.

Jones killed us. We were actually playing better than Spurs when he stupidly scored that OG

Pogba will never be great in a two man midfield; he's not a DM. It baffles belief that Mourinho still hasn't seen this. It has to be a 3 man midfield; this mistake by Mourinho is hard to take.

Spurs are too dominant and compact in centre midfield for us to start something.

Bring in someone on who can make Dier and Alli look like the babies they are

We have been diabolical since the second goal, we need to change it up bigtime.

4-3-3 would be my suggestion. Bring Fellaini on for Lingard and slot him in alongside Matic, with Pogba just ahead of them. Martial and Sanchez needs to switch positions, the former is far more comfortable on the left. Sanchez can play to equal affect on both wings.

We can still get something out of the game. Come on United!

Pogba has done feck all, just jogging around like if we are the team that's 2-0 up.

As he does every week. He really has been a huge disappointment in his first two seasons back.

Alexis should have started in the bench today, and came on a little later on. Martial should be on the left. Phil Jones, it’s not his day today.

We had to concede a goal at one point or another this new year :p

    - Spurs 1st goal was offside but still not an excuse for the lack of concentration and readiness at kickoff

    - Not liking Martial forced to play on the right. You can tell he’s not as comfortable there and if he had some of the chances he’s had on the left wing probably would’ve been able to curl one in by now, something which he can’t really do on the opposite side

    - Should’ve had a mid3 from the beginning. Spurs always play through the middle and we were always going to be at a disadvantage with just Pogba and Matic. Should’ve been Herrera for Lingard but oh well, too late for it now as we need goals

It was a very open game once they scored first and I thought we would score. We were unlucky to go two down but they should have had a pen so who knows.
Still slightly optimistic we might get something but if they get 3 I can see us getting a man sent off.

What Mourinho should be blamed for is a)starting Martial on the right and b)should never play 4-2-3-1 again against any top team from now on.

Watching Kane and then comparing him to Lukaku makes you wanna weep.

Masterful display of holdup play from Kane who's half the size of Lukaku.

I really really fail to see what Lukaku brings to our play except a lot of huff and puff. He really may be a 90 million mistake.

We've been getting progressively worse during this first half - again. In the first 15-20 minutes, we could, if extremely rarely, sometimes get the ball to the front four quickly and looked a bit threatening, especially when Martial got going. But even that threat has completely disappeared since. Pogba is nowhere, we're being completely outnumbered and outfought in midfield. Like at Liverpool, like at Chelsea, like at Arsenal (yes, Arsenal. We won there because our customary good start yielded two goals and our subsequent tapering off didn't cost us).

Right back in a battle for top 4 again with this, unless there's a miracle in the second half. I wish we had Eriksen and Kane.

The overall trend this season and last one is that Mourinho is tactically outdated in the big games. We press very poorly as a team and his only move seem to be to be compact. Today he went with a more open team and we get punished. Still we need to improve our pressing game a lot.

Spurs are striding past him, he’s offered nothing defensively.

From deep he lays it off to the person next to him and doesn’t make a run past the spud marking him to advance the play, and so the person receiving the ball just gets shut down or gives it back to him.

I’d put out a Herrera Pogba Fellaini midfield with Martial Lukaku Lingard ahead of them

So you’d take out Sanchez also? That’s never going to happen, Lingard will be sacrificed before Sanchez. Herrera should come on for Lingard or Martial at halftime, we need more presence in the middle, Pogba leaving Matic all alone makes him have to cover too many positions and gets overrun

First goal can happen, whatever. But problem from the start is awful system. It never fecking works. Ever. It barely works away to watford and shit like that, and yet Mourinho keeps trying it against the top teams. Pogba is at his best in a midfield 3, as is Matic ffs. Whenever they play in a 2, our defence looks shaky and vulnerable. I have no idea why Mourinho insists on doing that but the first half has effectively been thrown away (as has the game most likely) since Mourinho refuses to do a 4-3-3. Pogba is barely a center mid, and he definitely isn't a defensive mid for a double pivot. He's an attacking mid and completely shit at defensive duties, so why does he think it can work away to Spurs, against City, against Chelsea, and whoever else. It's infuriating.

Don’t know what game some of you are watching, but this (and other games) comes down to 2 things.
    1) the other team move the ball quicker than us
    2) the other team presses us up the pitch whilst we sit and let them come into us.

    Rinse,repeat,rinse,repeat.

And that come down to one man.....

We're shite when we're pressed and we never press the opposition I'll never know.

We're a team of athletes ffs.

    Any truth in Sanchez's agent

    Martial on the left?
Pogba in a 2 man midfield
    Ashley young on the pitch.

    Jose's calls.

Martial started on the right and switched to the left later in the half. He's looked more likely to score than any of our players on either flank. Lukaku and Sanchez have been worse in their natural positions.

I personally would have gone with an extra man in midfield, but with the way Matic is playing we might as well always be a man light in midfield.

Yes Young has been awful this half, but otherwise rarely put a foot wrong this season. Harsh to blame Jose on that decision.

We can still out of the game. Come on United!

    You make too much sense.

Don't give me that shit, I said I wouldn't play Martial (or more specifically we shouldn't play 4 attacking players plus Pogba) not that we wouldn't and oh would you look at that I'm being proved spot on, once again were outnumbered in midfield in a big game
I had Fellaini in for Lingard in my team. Got 10 out of 11. I think Fellaini would have cleared that first ball.

Pogba btw. What the feck was that. Jogging around in the middle of the park when Matic has to cover the whole midfield? Also why does Mou start Martial on the right? Is he completely mad?

Jones has won no headers today. He was responsible for both the goals

It started badly but then we rallied, only to get gradually worse. Bullied all over the park, none of our defenders can stand to spend longer than a second on the ball and getting it quickly up the pitch, which we were actually doing for a while after the first goal, looks impossible when no-one can get it down and look up.

I'd like to see Herrera in a three-man midfield and hope that helps Matic because he's been torrid. Maybe sacrifice Martial, which would be a shame but he's had no joy on the right. The back four and the midfield have been terrible so short of somehow being able to make six subs we need to hope a change of formation and Jose and Rui rattling a few skulls can wake us up.

Did anyone just see the BT Sanchez sign (the ones that they quickly flash up after the adverts) $an€h£z

That's what worries me. Result like this and Martial on the bench for months.

Why Sanchez, who has actually had a lot of success in his career, isn't palying on the right is beyond me, and the fact Jose still can't accept Pogba is not suited to a midfield 2 is baffling.
