We aren't exactly defensive though. We still have Lukaku, Rashford, Micky, Pogba and Herrera on the pitch at the same time.

Different formation, though, and players in different positions.

For example, Mkhi is nowhere near as good on the wing than he is behind the forward.

That said, as you mentioned, with the players we've got, we should have enough for Stoke.

    will it be a 4-3-3
    ---------------Matic--------------
    -------Hererra--------Pogba-----
    Mikhi------------------Rashford--
    --------------Lukaku------------

    or a 4-3-1-2 / 4-1-2-1-2

    ---------------Matic--------------
    -------Hererra--------Pogba-----
    ------------Mikhi-----------------
    ------Lukaku---------Rashford--
The first, no doubt. We haven't even used the second in friendlies.

A bit disappointed Mourinho didn't stick to our winning mojo, going here and playing full attacking football like in the other games.

I don't think it'll be too different. Pogba will play further forwards of the three. Shame miki will be shunted out wide. I think hes best centrally. As he has proved so far.

First line up this season set up to be difficult to break down. Interested to see how different United play.

If the first half ends by 0-0, we should put Mata or Martial instead of Herrera as fast as possible to prevent the match from dragging out to the last minutes with the draw.

It's mad how one change in the front six turns us into a defensive team.

You support Man United. Fellaini is part of Man United.

For example I despise Diego Costa, so if he came to Man United I am supposed to like him from that moment just because he carries the red shirt even though he is despicable human being? Bollocks.

The club tv just showed our midfield with Pogba as #10. I don't believe it.

I'd expected Martial to start given that he was not called up for the NT. I guess he has to prove himself, yet again!

Could be interesting if Herrera played deeper than Matić, but not likely.

That seems a little over the top!

Happy Berahino isn't starting for Stoke. Mistake by Hughes imo. Really think we should win this. Could see it taking a while to get the first goal but once we get it more will follow relatively quickly.

Nah a 3 man mid gives more freedom for pogba to venture forward in dangerous areas. Stoke city will attack and it's better to have 2 behind to control the counter attack. We have scored more goals with freedom late on in mid 3 , Stoke won't give any space to a cam to penetrate, so pogba can forge in with mid stability.

Interesting team and good to see Mourinho changing things up to fit the opposition.

I have always worried about going away to Stoke, never easy to play there plus United have not won at Stoke ever since SAF left.

Last season game away we also started 4-3-3, but changed to 4-2-3-1 at 57'.

Not saying 4-3-3 is a bad formation but if the result remains a draw we need to push with more attacking players rather than having another midfielder.

I still don't get the hate for Fellani. He is a very useful squad player. He doesn't complain which is a bonus but he will come on and do a job whether that be to be the guy we knock the long balls to as an outlet/cause nuisance or try and help us defend a lead because the opposition is just knocking balls into the box.

He may not do them perfectly but he is very useful overall to have.

It's mystifying, really. Just prejudice about what a player should be.

He's played bloody well this season. Great squad player. I can see why Mourinho likes him. I just ignore the haters....it's getting boring....

Jose has shown stoke too much respect here imo. Darmien weakens our attack and mky is so much better at 10. Feel like this is a game we should be taking by the scruff of the neck.. can see a 1-1 now

Its a tricky game and for me makes sense to set our stall out not to concede, then 65-70 mins perhaps change things in the final 3rd to give us more going forward.
