Need to bounce back. This game will tell us a lot about the mental strength of some of our players. Those who performed poorly against Liverpool need to react and prove they deserve to be in the starting line-up.

Yesterday was very disappointing but I don't get some of the negativity in this thread, there's no reason we shouldn't beat this medicore Stoke side.

I think Jose might bring in Smalling and Blind as he seems to switch the LB role reegular as neither are producing much and he talked about rotating the CB's while Bailly is away. The big question is Carrick or Mata.

Wouldn't mind seeing 2 up top against smaller teams, goal difference is important, I'd like to see:

    DDG

    Valencia Rojo Jones Darmian(/Shaw?)
    Pogba Herrera

    Mata.................Martial

    Rashford Ibra

Remember last season we folded over in the first half, was a pathetic display.

Arnautovic and Bojan destroyed us, let's hope we will be more up for it after the Liverpool game.

Will be a tough game but I expect us to come through this.

One thing that I have noticed with us recently is the resurgence of grit, determination and fight in the team. Previously, it was as if we went a goal down and I never expected anything from the game, due to the nature of our play and lack of fight in the squad. I would be right feeling that way too, because it was rare we ever came back into games after going behind. I think it's apparent though we have more about us now, and will always go tooth and nail to get back into a game. Case in point - yesterday. We were poor, and in previous seasons we would have got nothing from the game. But we get a goal back and the refusal to submit is coming back and I'm loving that.

Put up or shut up time though, and I think the boys will react positively on Saturday.

Jones and Rojo would do well in that game and we'll be singing praises to how we finally found true heirs to Vidic and Rio

If only you find a post where someone claimed they're new Vida and Rio.

Well some do thing that these two can be first team regulars, that despite years had past and none of our current CBs was able to hold a regular first team place. The last regular first team CBs we had were Rio and Vida.

Well they are first team regulars right now.

There is a couple of players who should be benched for this one after having a terrible game yesterday.
Think Stoke away will be a tough game that will end with a draw.

Feeling confident we'll get a win. Liverpool pressed us out of shape, but they've done that to most top teams this season, Stoke will be business as usual. The Liverpool game taught us a lesson though, and that is we still have a way to go. Stability in performances against the lesser teams seems to be there, and the top level will be adressed during the summer transfer window. I trust Mourinho will pull a rabbit or two out of the hat

    Follow the trend of 3-4-3!

    Lingard Zlatan Mickey
    Young Pogba Ander Valencia
    Rojo Smalling Jones
    DdG

Make no mistake, these guys are game raisers. Especially when Man Utd are in town.

Very hard game to call, this. Stoke are strange - they'll look like absolute world beaters in one game then be truly shocking in the next. Would be a very good 3 points if we can get them.

If we were ever going for a 343 I would go for

    De Gea
    Jones Smalling Rojo
    Valencia Ander Pogba Darmian
    Mkhitaryan Ibrahimovic Martial

Obviously it won't happen but I think it would be cool to try out. Rojo and Jones have really stepped up and Darmian is at his favourite position, where he played for Torino.

Imagine Martial, Mkhitaryan, Zlatans just staying up front. Wow.

Usually I worry about Stoke because they normally perform against us. I think we will absolutely batter them this time though, we are playing well and creating a load of chances we should be scoring - even against a defensive LPool side. Surely someone will be on the end of a hiding soon.

Well the thing about that is you need one player in the backline who can pass the ball well. It works for Tottenham and Chelsea because they have David Luiz and Alderweireld respectively. Our players can't do that. That means maybe putting Carrick in the backline in the middle, which is kind of pointless because then it is basically 4-3-3 again.

Typical we face them just as they've hit form, though when we played them at OT they were in awful form and look what happened then

After both Spurs and City scored 4 here we really need to at least win especially with Spurs and City playing one another afterwards

    Tough game though

Saying this for god knows, how long. A win would be great but I don't think United currently have good finishing boots on at all this season.

I hope Mata starts, think he'll help us create goals and Pogba will have had a kick up the arse regarding his play so I expect him to play well.

The biggest threat is Arnautovic on the left, but Valencia will have his number. Crouch with his gangly height is a bit of an issue as we're not the biggest team so keeping set-pieces to a minimum is important.

    Stoke 1 - 2 United

    DDG
Valencia Rojo Jones Darmian/Blind (kind of fed up of Darmian)
    Pogba Herrera
    Mkhitaryan Mata Martial
    Ibrahimovic

I want to see a more settled XI from now on. Shaw needs to come back in and when there is no Carrick, Mata must start.

    I know, it's a conundrum!:wenger:

We need the consistency of playing the same team regularly but be must be wary of what games lie ahead.

DDG, Valencia, Carrick, Pog, Ander, Zlatan & Mihki I think are still the only shoe-ins for Stoke.
Probably Rojo too but I think Jose might give Jones a rest & use Smalling against the height of Stoke.
LB will probably be Darmian, he's looking more assured these days but I sure would like to see Shaw at least on the bench!
Then the last spot is a toss-up between all the rest i.e. Martial, Mata, Rashford & Lingard
Start Mata & bring on speed as needed after 50 or 60 minutes? Or start with pace (Any of the other three) and have Mata come on and ensure the result?

Hull away in the League Cup follows this game 5 days later where we have a 2 goal advantage against a decimated City team so at least some of the "fringe" players will get a chance to close it out. I don't anticipate too much resistance from Hull but we can't afford to be too casual.

This is followed by a home game only 3 days after that but also at home this time against Wigan in the FA cup; Another opportunity for the other fringe players to shine hopefully but again what should be a relatively easy game.

Unfortunately we have Hull again 3 days after that this time in the EPL. Assuming the first teamer's get rested along the way we should see the best 11 again in this game to ensure the 3 points.

That's four games in 11 days followed by Leicester 4 days later making it 5 in 16 days if my maths are correct?

A tough schedule in terms of the number of games in a short period of time but thankfully hardly any travel to speak of. It could've been a lot feckin' worse had it been the Boro & the "Red barcodes" away :p instead of Hull & Stoke

City plays Spurs this week, and Liverpool vs Chelsea the week after. We should be winning our next 2 games, Mourinho and the players must do their best, I think looking back to the Pool game some players should bounce back at Stoke and perform.
Blind for Darmian and Mata for Mikhi for me.

Thinking Blind might start over Darmian, maybe Mata or Fellaini over Carrick if he is injured. Wouldn't be surprised to see Martial or Mkhitaryan on the bench either. Smalling could be useful here to give Jones a rest, he was probably our second worst performer against Liverpool.

    de Gea
    Valencia Smalling Rojo Blind
    Herrera Fellaini Pogba
    Mata Ibrahimovic Mkhitaryan

Carrick still starts for me if fit.

    Pogba Herrera
    Mkhitaryan Mata Martial
    Ibrahimovic
    I'll go for this line-up.

Very difficult place to go for us, as usual. Stoke under Sparky always has something in them that can rt any big teams.

So it'll be very difficult especially because we're not playing that well recently.

With the run of game we have now until March, I think it's one of the toughest so veryyy important to win.

    ---------------------------------De Gea---------------------------------
    Valencia------------------Jones--------Rojo-------------------Darmian
    ----------------------------------Carrick----------------------------------
    Mata----------------------Herrera-----Pogba-----------------Mkhitaryan
    ------------------------------------Ibra-------------------------------------

Could Pogba and Zlatan do it on a cold windy afternoon at Britannia bet365 stadium?

Hope they don't play Crouch. The type of player to have a great game against us. Walter's will also have a wonder game.

Walters is out injured, he had an operation the other day. Hate games at this ground because of the conditions, especially at this time of year, which has been the case for the last 4 seasons. Always windy at the very least, and sometime stormy as well. Remember the Boxing Day game last season and Depay making a hash of things for the first goal when he misjudged how strong the wind was. It's this type of fixture that would make you wish Vidic was still playing for United, and at his best. With passing more difficult on this ground, Martial and Mkhitaryan could be keep with their ability to run with the ball, and the susceptibility defensively of Johnson in particular. Crouch and Shawcross will be big threats from set pieces.

Wouldn't mind if Carrick is on the bench with Mata starting instead. Shaw back maybe?

    De Gea
    Val - Rojo - Jones - Darmian
    Mikhi - Herrera - Pogba
    Mata - Ibra - Martial
Now that Klopp and Lallana showed how to nullify Carrick's influence, I wonder if other teams will try it.

Bailly could be that player, he's pretty good on the ball.

If Mourinho thinks Crouch might start, he will even go for Smalling and/or Fellaini.
