I really want to see if he would be willing to play a 3 in midfield. Maybe we could also see a reversion to last season, where Matic drops deeper to create a 3 when building up from the back.

I don't see De Gea dropped at all, why are people saying this ? For me he's just resting. Henderson deserves to get some game in PL as he's quality, has nothing to do with De Gea's current stance. Contrary to last 2 seasons, he has actually been doing fairly well this season.

Haha every time we started Matic every single team always sliced us up in the midfield and ended up dominating and creating a ton of chances.
    The dude has no legs.
Good chance this is the reply of West Ham game. Sheffield will score early and then we will turn it around after half time.

Either way get ready for Sheffield dominating in the first half.
    Ole is just beyond clueless.
    Sigh.

Sheffield United aren't a high pressing team that floods the middle of the pitch.

I'm not a fan of the Pogba+Matic axis. But if ever there was a game where they should be okay, this is hopefully it.

We are expected to dominate possession, just hope we can put it in the back of the net

    Our best midfielder by miles

Is there a single 11 that Ole could pick without moaning galore on here? Seems like people want to moan for sake of it.

We don't win this game it's on the players not Ole. That team he's fielded is very strong. Nothing wrong with it. The front 6 from project restart and only Telles and Hendo as newbies.

This is on the players now. They match their effort and we will win barring a red card or disaster class from the officials.
No. He could pick 11 balon d'Or winners and still get flak.

With exception of Henderson and Telles, didn't we go on a run where we won a few games in a row by atleast 3 goals?
Yup you're right, just 4 PL games in a row (Sheffield, Brighton, Bournemouth, Villa).

Our midfield and defense were exposed though, which is worrying.
Thankfully the shit teams had shit off day finishing in those games.

Hammered them, but our armor is also trash. The run stop as soon as teams quickly figured that out. Carried now towards this season. The duo couldn't hammer teams anymore. So yes, I'm not confident at all.

That's the post-lockdown midfield where we looked like a good team for a while, right? Only changes to that whole 11 are Telles and Henderson.

    Feel confident about this one.

BTW have we accepted the Cavani charge? If not, could we have, and this game would have counted towards the ban?

Old man Matic in midfield paired with Pogba. Reminds me of Mourinho's midfields.

Next time Ole talks about burnout with his players im switching off. If he can't rest players against teams like SU (no offence to them) then WTF is the point of having a squad?

I hope Matic/Pogba midfield can hold up - they were good post-lockdown but poor at the beginning of this season.

I wish Henderson has a good game, not just re goalkeeping but in terms of organising the defence, being vocal - this has the potential for keeping him in the team as it's not a DDG strength.

And I really hope Martial gets a goal or two, along with Greenwood and Rashford. We need our forwards scoring and confident.

Our best players are all on the pitch, if not our best legs. If they all have a good game, we win easily. If there's one game you can play Matic and Pogba, it's this one. Sheffield United are in too poor a form to go pressing us like mad. Hopefully we can do the business early and give some players a rest.

    ??????

He's rested 4 players who start regularly for us.

8 o clock kick off but what time do we start playing?

Been a while since we scored the first goal.

At the same time, our forwards will know his weaknesses at least. I’m clutching at straws here.

This has all the makings of the plucky underdog getting a result.

United aren’t good at capitalising when results have gone in their favour.

Tuanzebe, injured? Strange to not include a centre back on the bench..

Why? He's a squad level player and he's fulfilling his potential.
My opinion differs from yours. Scott and Fred should play as 2 in the games against better quality or pressing teams with Donny as 1st choice substitute.

I don't want Pogba playing for us again.

Matic as a squad player nothing more.

Donny should be an option for any other scenario. I.E Fred and Donny, Matic and Donny. Scott and Donny.

I just rate him more than you going by your reply. He's shown his quality for Ajax and will be superb for us. He has not come to us to be a squad player. I'm not surprised his agent has spoken out

If we can't hammer this lot we might as well stop playing football.

Erm, he has continually chopped/rested and changed the team.

Right after the January transfer window, against teams that didn't know how to play against us with Bruno in the team.

But opposition managers figured us out pretty quickly after that. The last 5 or 6 games were characterised by us consistently losing the midfield battle.

Pogba+Matic are not a press-resistant, they're capable of a quick passing tempo, and they're not careful enough with possession. But if we can prevent Sheffield from exploiting those weaknesses, United should be fine. On paper, Wilder doesn't appear to have the players to do that, so fingers crossed.

No issues with the team, we should get away with Pogba in the double pivot in this game and resting Fred and Shaw makes sense as both took knocks on Sunday. Given Sheffield will sit in deep I expected Mata to start.

Few years back Dudek made a terrible mistake for Liverpool. Every body was calling for his head and wanted Kirkland to replace nim. After that particular game (can't remeber which one was it) Dudek was expected be dropped. Houlier gave him one more game where Dudek kept a clean sheet and then fot dropped. I wonder (i doubt IT anyhow) IT Ole is doing the same thing qith DDG here.
Possible, and I thought might be the case too. If that's the case, it's good man management.

Yeah, I'm not saying it's the way to go, always. But I think this might work to our advantage tonight. At least we've got 3 midfielders on the bench if it's not working. And Fred gets a rest before being required to run non-stop for 90+ minutes against Leeds.

So nervous for this, these kind of games are rarely as easy as they seem on paper. We`ve also just witnessed City dropping points against West brom and Liverpool against Fulham.
