  • Can't see past a defeat and the main hope is United having something to play for in the 2nd leg in Old Trafford instead of the tie as good as over already.

    Every feckin player keeps getting injured with seemingly no return dates. It is so infuriating. Our current injury list is:

    Shaw
    Mount
    Mainoo
    Diallo (out for season)
    Collyer
    Martinez (out for season)
    Bayindir
    Evans

    and now possibly Maguire and Yoro.
     
    Would prefer we go more defensive playing away in Europe and go with something like this:

    Onana
    De Ligt Maguire Yoro
    Dalot Casemiro Ugarte Dorgu
    Zirkzee Garnacho
    Bruno

    Done similar at the end of Ten Hag's reign and just shut up shop with Bruno in the false 9 and ground out results, we have to stay in the tie unfortunately away, I'd take a draw here and now.
     
    What I'm really worried about is losing this tie will wrap up our season and we will only see worse performances from now until May.

    I was saying this from before the Ipswich game - our season could be over in 3 games if we beat Ipswich, Lost to Fulham and lose badly at Sociedad.

    We're 2/3...

    Swap Bruno and Zirkzee, as there’s no need to play both out of position and Zirkzee is far better at holding the ball up. Otherwise, I think that’s the best team which seems likely to be available.

    Yep, looking very likely now. From a personal standpoint, will only accelerate my own checking out this season. What a miserable few months following this club.
     
    Any early team news. Dorgu returning will be a positive. Hopefully lindelchuckle isn’t anywhere near getting any time.

    You’d be surprised. Our players may actually show up when there’s absolutely nothing on the line.
     
    I’d start Casemiro alongside Ugarte in this one.

    Mazraoui can move into the back 3 with Dorgu back if Maguire or Yoro are out.

    Zirkzee could barely move in extra time yesterday but assuming he’s fine I’d start him up top and leave Hojlund out. Hopefully he can hold the ball up and take some pressure off when needed.

    I’d be pleased with a draw in the away leg.
     
    I’ve absolutely no enthusiasm for this game. I fully expect us to be dumped out of this cup as well and that’ll be our season done and dusted in early March.
     
    Why doesn't he try a pressing midfeild 3 with Casemiro sitting back unless something is on. It's not like his 10s are doing anything in this formation anyway. This is the time to be pragmatic but he won't be. We will probably concede 2. Let's hope we can score one and give him another chance at home to change something (which he won't take either) imagine being so married to a formation that you're willing to go out of major competitions and keep getting completely outplayed without even trying something new? Crazy. It's made us so boring and predictable

    No we haven’t, individual errors have cost us more than anything.
     
    Obi created the same amount of dangerous chances against Fulham as Hojlund in 22 games in the league. We have nothing to lose at this stage, so start him against sociedad.

    He has already said his formation is more of a 5-3-2 at this stage, so he is making changes and tweaking the formation, but the players continue to make ridiculous individual errors and our attackers couldn’t finish their lunch. How does that fall on Amorim?

    Careful, there’s an element of positivity in this post!
     
    Struggling to see much grounds for optimism beyond the obvious fact that ‘you never know in football’ and ‘anyone can win’.

    At least Dorgu can play this one, and we need him out there. Europa League Hojlund may also turn up too. Garnacho got his first goal out there, hopefully he can repeat it.

    We can REALLY do with winning this tournament so somehow, some way.
