No matter the system or position, Donny looks lost.

Eriksen today looks way off the pace. Also felt like he looked off the pace in the last couple of games tbh.

but I wonder if another bad CM performance from Eriksen will be swept under the rug.
Eriksen clearly has his strengths but you can see just how bad his limitations are trying to play him in midfield in bigger games. Many have made their mind up about how he’s already a much better player than Pogba, so it’ll be difficult to reconcile that fact for a little and have to admit they were overzealous with how good Eriksen is.

The total kneejerk on DvdB is insane. Barely any comments on Eriksen.

We've been dominated in midfield and it's not just one person's fault. The change in formation has not been amazing as well but again there's the guy who's not played for weeks who's at fault.
Is it kneejerking if these non show performances are the norm for VDB at United?

Most people could have predicted this performance from him. At least be bad like Eriksen but being anonymous is worse.

Both Eriksen and VDB need hooking off. Give them 10-15 minutes and if they don't improve them take them off. Though Eriksen is more likely to improve second half because he's actually present in the game but simply sucks so far. VDB on the other hand can't even be found.

I think it’s been a decent performance, not man for man but Bruno has been excellent, as has Casemiro, Garnacho, and Martinez. It’s not easy going to any Spanish team, we’ve struggled enough over the years.

Surprised how poor Eriksen and VdB have been. Possibly VdB being poor is partly down to Eriksen being poor and lack of control in midfield.

It's been a good half, played some nice stuff. Ronaldo should've put as 2 up though I'm not sure if he was onside. At least he's trying so can't fault him for that. VdB on the other hand, doesn't look like doing anything. I know he hasn't played much but there are ways to involve yourself in the game. I'm pretty sure Ronaldo has had more sprints then he has. Massively disappointing. Another disappointment was Eriksen, looks tired and slow.

The defense has been amazing. Garnacho has been fantastic and Bruno seems to be running himself into the ground. I think the only reason we put him at RW is because only he can match Antony's workrate. It dulls his edge but the team's needs come first I guess.

We need to replace both Eriksen and VdB to gain control of this match. But I can't help but feel we'll win this 1-2 and all our efforts will be in vain. That fecking penalty is still pissing me off.

It's a first start for Donny. Cannot be too harsh when Ronaldo after so many games is still not up to the mark.
I mean, Ronaldo is 38 and one of the goats. The other is literally just a body to fill numbers at this point.

Garnacho has a wee bit of Bale in him, big frame, will be a powerhouse when he develops.

I’ve always defended him and said he should be given chances a lot more but this isn’t the first time he’s played and looked like he can’t affect a game.

Even at Ajax he never affected a game in a very visual way. He makes runs to create space or to receive the ball. He doesnt dribble past the opponent or splits a defence with his passing.

Very possible that he isnt good enough but its his first game in a while so its not that strange he doesnt play well today.

    Neither is DvdB jfc.

He's barely played. He might turn out to be the dud he appears to be but the bandwagoning is absolutely ridiculous.

We had this last year with Martial. All the football brains on here decided he's shit because he's constantly injured and now this year he's turned into some kind of French Agüero/Wilson in that he's seen as the solution to our problems if only he'd stay fit.
You could count on one hand the number of good games Donny has had in English football. That’s consistent.

Eriksen seems to be a bit off the pace of the game and is losing the second balls. Maybe tired, maybe confused about the formation. Hopefully he has a good half.
Not sure what more Bruno is to do? He has been quite good on the wing. Helping Dalot and tracking back. It's his passes to Ronaldo while ignoring other options is a bit infuriating.

We have only 4 players with a passing accuracy of more than 80%.

Ronaldo again has been fine but he's useless anywhere near the penalty box. Bruno is offering more on the wing than Elanga. Van de Beek is useless and almost the whole team has been weak under pressure.

Midfield battle is crying out for a bit of Fred. I'd have himself and Rashford on for Eriksen and Donny at half time.

That's a matter of opinion. I don't recall one half decent game from him, let alone anything better.

Shaw, Martinez and Garnacho have been good but yeah seems like the midfield is struggling. Fred for donny at half time?

If we swap Eriksen and v.d.Beek with Rashford or McT/Fred - we will look dangerous in second half

Let's beef up the midfield with either Fred or Mctominay alongside Casemiro

Surprised how poor Eriksen and VdB have been. Possibly VdB being poor is partly down to Eriksen being poor and lack of control in midfield.

I think the evidence shows Donny has never had a good game for us so very strange to pin another anonymous performance in a long line of them on Eriksen.

Eriksen is playing too deep for my liking. When I saw the lineup I thought he would have been further up with VDB being the one playing deeper. Eriksen should play further up, while VDB might as well be subbed off since he's been practically non-existant.

BTT really stretching for a stat with that one.
Bit strange they didn’t just go with youngest goal scores in Europe, can’t be that many ahead of him, unless they didn’t want to mention Giggs or Greenwood’s name on air.(don’t even know for sure it they were younger)
