I am hoping James Wilson can get some goals to hasten his progress into the first team squad, onto the bench rather than just tagging along.

Fair enough but you're watching players playing at a lower level. It's not comparable to first team football. Maybe include a couple (Wilson, Blackett) but fielding a team where most are reserves is foolhardy.

Also, if these guys are better than current first teamers they'd be getting in the team.

We have a injury crisis at the moment in some positions. Cannot risk more first teamers plus need to try out other options there.

And most of these guys have had successful Championship loans or ready for one at their ages. We are playing a league 1 side. Agree though we will probably feature couple of more first teamers but i won't be that worried with that team either.

Not to mention it's only 2 days after the Sunderland match so most if not all of the Sunderland starters probably won't start.Really weird way to organise schedule.

I would expect Rafael, Evans, Keane, James to all start. Kagawa, Welbeck, Januzaj + possibly Hernandez.

Our central midfield is what I'm not sure about. Fletcher can't play again. It could be Powell, Anderson, Rothwell, Pearson or possibly Kagawa in the middle. Not saying they're good enough to play in the middle but we haven't got much choice.

Thorpe, Varela, Vermijl and Lawrence may all be in with a shout too. No matter what the team is, it's sure to be interesting.

Really can't wait for this game, as I love our depth of fringe and youth squaddies, so hoping to get a completely different team out to see if anyone can get the chance to impress!

Haven't really seen anyone mention Zaha getting a run out? Would be quite good to see what he could do against lesser opponents. It'd also be nice to see Varela make an appearance!

    4-0 United.

None of the starting XI from the sunderland game will start I doubt. With 1 point from the opening games, 1st teamers need to be fit & sharp for the weekend.

As has been said, hopefully Wilson & Zaha get a game, but also Pereira & Petrucci in mid-field.

Is Lingard properly injured, or will he be in contention?

This game is a danger to my lineup predictions. I have no idea if LVG will go for youth or experience in this one!

We are going to drop one of the Smalling/Blackett because of Rojo arrival. So one of them will play for sure.

I wonder, will Rojo get his work permit in time for Burnley? If he doesn't, then Smalling and Blackett will both play again, so...

    What the hell is this?:nono:

Really shit club these. Hope we smash them 8-0.

Is there some sort of press conference before this? i mean i know its the carling cup, yet every friendly had a press conference so this should too have one.

I like to know if Van Gaal is going to let Ryan Giggs be in charge while he will be the assistant in League Cup games. I believe he did something similar at Barcelona and Bayern if I'm not mistaken.

I think we should play some of our youngsters and players who need game time.
    My line up would be

    De Gea.
    Keane Jones Blackett
    Rafael Powell Pearson Rojo
    Kagawa
    Welbeck Januzaj

I know the midfield looks weak and probably wouldn't happen but i cant see Fletcher playing after 3 days and Cleverley is totally useless so why not try our younger players. Maybe we will see Anderson but i don't think that's likely.

What??? This is our best chance of a trophy this year, we can't afford to mess about.

Don't see it as a huge risk starting Wilson (if fit).

Would like to see something like:

    DdG

    Rafael (if fit)
    Keane
    Jones
    Rojo (if available)
    Young

    Kagawa
    Fletcher

    Januzaj

    Wilson
    Welbeck

Do we have any youth CM's that is ready to step to the senior team?

I don't think van Gaal will go and play all the kids here, but some will definitely get a chance.

Michael Keane, Tyler Blackett, Reece James, and James Wilson will all probably play. I can see Kagawa and Januzaj being included also:

    de Gea
    Keane Blackett Rojo
    Rafael Fletcher Cleverley James
    Kagawa
    Wilson Januzaj

However, I can see van Persie, Welbeck, or Hernandez also playing.

I like this one, except I don't think we should be playing with a midfield duo of Fletcher and Cleverley ever again. Rather give Pearson a chance as a starter or play Kagawa in the middle, Januzaj at 10 and Welbeck/Chicharito upfront with Wilson. Also, I don't think Rojo will play in this one, so there maybe a chance for Thorpe here. Janko is also definitely ready for a game like this, imo.

Nick Powell??? Not heard anything of him in a while.

Completely forgot about him. Some reports says he and Wilson travelled with the first team yesterday. Maybe this means he will get a chance against MK? Not sure about him playing CM though. Hasn't he been playing upfront or as a '10' for Wigan?

Pretty sure he was injured before the pre-season tour... Assuming he's still not fit? Might get a look in if he is though.

He trained with the first team last week, same as Wilson. They also traveled with the first team yesterday. One assumes they are both fit and ready.

Wonder if he will start in the 3-5-2 with the strongest line-up to build a small bit of confidence and to get more practice at the formation.
