It’s not about being timid, it’s just pure stupidity.
He is trying to hold up the defender which is great if he actually got the ball, but instead all he does is just neutralise himself out of the play completely because he’s nowhere near the ball and the defender doesn’t really need to do anything because he’s always running straight into them.
His finishing is decent, as we can see from last season, but he’s just too concerned trying to prove himself to be some sort of physical menace instead of just doing his actual job which is getting to the end of chances to try and fecking score.

That's how I'd sum it up, too. Defensively, we've looked good. We're just missing that extra quality up front. We've come into the game more as it's gone on and have been the better team. Amass and Fredricson have done very well.
Some good balls into the box by Eriksen and Dorgu but my god Hojlund is just never in the right place at the right time.
Two of Dorgu's crosses were crying out to be put away but we didn't have a player even attempting to attack the centre of the box.Amass and Eriksen have been our two best in the first half. Garnacho and Dorgu have been decent as well.
Now imagine we had a real striker.I had low expectations of the game and it definitely met that.Any licenced coach in here? Can you still teach a 23 years or so old central forward timing a run for cross, jump, and actually head the ball towards goal?

I agree. From what I see, he hides too much behind defenders and waits for the chances to come directly to him, rather than actually forcing defenders out of position or trying to get behind or around them. Every cross has to be with pinpoint precision and directly onto his head with no other defenders in sight, purely because he won't ever race to meet it himself. The pace and physicality of the league doesn't seem to suit him.- Status
