Not really. We need Chelsea to drop points so, if they lose, a draw takes us above them anyway.
Or if we win tonight and Chelsea drops points then a draw v Leicester keeps us above Chelsea.. Which would get us CL with a draw tonight anyway.
It matters far more to Leicester than to us
If we win today, and Chelsea drop points against both Liverpool and Wolves, we'll be in the CL regardless of what we do at Leicester.

I'd say it's important to put ourselves in as good a position as possible before the last game which will be incredibly tough.

We're playing first so we have to go for the win.

Im not saying set out for the draw, im saying the difference between the two is minimal and gives us a chance to rest players for the pivitol game on Sunday.

    An interesting option indeed.

    DDG
    Dalot - Lindelof - Maguire - Williams
    McTominay - Fred - Pogba
    Greenwood - Ighalo - James

Something like this would allow us to rest our most important / played / fatigued players in AWB, Matic, Bruno, Martial and Rashford while still having enough quality on the pitch to have a go at West Ham. Gives us a better chance to beat Leicester and secure top 4. Winning the WHU game doesn't guarantee anything. Beating Leicester does.

Usual line-up, but swap Matic for McTominay.

Matic is probably the single most important player on the pitch when both Pogba and Fred are playing. He links the midfield to the defense and allows Pogba to push up. Without Matic, Pogba has to go back and hold McTominay or Fred's hand at times.

Plus that side is good enough to beat West Ham. A fresher side like this might actually have a better chance at getting a win over our run down, first 11

A win means that Chelsea MUST beat Wolves to overtake us if they lose to Liverpool, so winning is very much important.

West Ham are pretty much safe aren't they? Villa and Watford would have to win their last game and West Ham would have to lose both theirs and also somehow lose ground on a +14 goal difference they have over the two below them.

So hopefully they won't come out all guns blazing. They've looked decent recently though, even when results haven't gone their way. I'm nervy again as we look useless when the team above us drops points and gives us a route into the top 4, as Leicester did at the weekend.

We obviously can't afford not to win this game, hopefully that pressure won't mean the players don't choke with the expectation. If we impose ourselves and go for it I don't see why we shouldn't win. West Ham will obviously try and crowd us out and close us down quickly but if we have two games against West Ham and Leicester to get into the CL then serious questions have to be asked from top to bottom.

I don't want Fred to play. Which is why I said McTominay for Matic. Rest Matic, he's more important against Leicester.

Really matters to me that Chelsea doesnt get CL after that blatant tactical fouling and referee talk from Frank on Sunday though

The difference between a 2 goal win and a 3 goal win is absolutely massive tonight.
If we can win by more than 2 then it means that Leicester will not only have to beat us, but will have to beat us by two goals to overtake us.

I realise it's a bit arrogant to assume we should win by more than two and if you offered me a 1-0 win now I'd probably take it, especially as we could overtake Chelsea also.
If we happen to be 2-0 up though then it creates a unique scenario where we may as well push for more because, in terms of finishing above Leicester, the difference between 2-0 and 3-0 (or better) is absolutely huge.
In fact (again discounting the Chelsea factor), if we don't win by more than two, but still win or even draw then it makes little difference, we still just need a point at Leicester to finish above them.
So, again, my overall point is if we are winning the game then it's an absolute no brainer that we should push for more goals and take the risk.

Yeah, agree. Solskjær wouldnt count on resting players if we are "only" 2-0 up anyway.

If we get 3 i think he would do some subs and hope we'll hold on .

    So weird:
We are guaranteed top 4 if we get 2 points out of our last 2 games, but not necessarily if we get 3 points.

    Romero*
    TFM -- Lind -- Mag -- Will
    McT -- Fred
    Rashford -- Pogba -- Martial
    Ighalo

Subs: Greenwood**, Bruno***, James, Mata, Pereira, Matic, AWB***, Mengi, De Gea
    * Sergio here, De Gea next game vs Leicester (sending message to the whole team "no more feck-ups!" from Ole).
** Greenwood's recent two games are poor.
    *** Extremely affected by fatigue.

They are, as you say because of their GD, in quite a secure position. Their final game is vs Villa though, so they will still want to try and secure a point at least.

If I’m David Moyes I’m telling my players to shoot on sight. Don’t even worry about the power or getting it in the corner. Just shoot & get it on target any time you get near our box.

In relation to the Leicester yes I suppose but I'm thinking of covering our bases in relation to Chelsea dropping points.

This is the sort of approach I’d like Ole to take tonight. If we go with our strongest side tonight and lose, it’s very hard to see those players lifting themselves enough to get a win against a rested and reinvigorated Leicester at the weekend.

Your suggestion would give us a decent chance of a result tonight and still leave plenty in reserve to recover the situation in case things go wrong.

Away to City in 2012..Kompany heads the winner from a corner late on.
Don't tell me we played to win that game.
Only one person to ask, and he's already answered for me...

Hope that turns out like it did for Spurs early in De Geas career where it almost became comical.

He stated many time that he always picked a team to win the game that there was no 'weakened team.'

We all knew there were fringe players, not as many as there are now but he challenged those to go out and show what they had.
Yup, class management, a team of 'fringe' players can be greater than the sum of their parts if motivated in the right way.

Can’t remember. Did they pepper him with pea rollers all game or something? Was that the game Nani scored that mad goal that should have been disallowed? Would have been around that time.

Yeah, West Ham play Villa last. They have to lose to us by a big score tonight to be in any danger (talking a good 5-0 thumping or more). Then, Villa would still have to go and beat West Ham about 5-0 again. And even after that (say West Ham has two 5-0 defeats in a row), Watford would have to defeat Arsenal 5-0 as well in that scenario. That big loss for Watford against City may be the decider. It's more about Watford and Villa. Watford basically has to better what Villa does on the last day. If Villa loses to West Ham, Watford needs to draw with Arsenal. If Villa draw with West Ham, Watford needs to beat Arsenal. If Villa beats West Ham, Watford needs to beat Arsenal by two additional goals over whatever score Villa won by.

No, the weird Nani goal - which was a perfectly good and legit goal, no idea why you think it should have been disallowed - was a year earlier. De Gea started the next season in shaky form and Spurs were basically shooting from everywhere, to no avail, and we won 3-0.
