That was a sack the manager performance. Ole looked like a rabbit in the headlights all night. Totally reliant on individuals changing the game.

what fecking team does not rely on individuals changing the game???

3/4 was out in defence. That actually matters. Sub impact does not count I guess, it is all black and white. meh. You should be happy for the win instead, but some people thrive on the negative side I guess.

Still no idea how we won that match. Ronaldo was out on his feet but still had the composure to finish. We were so much better after Pogba went off.

He passed the ball to Lindelof as before that we were lumping it forward, and at the time he visibly had to calm Telles, McT, who were both far too amped and were just booting the ball.

He brought a lot of composure that we were lacking, played some good balls like the one to Cavani, not perfect but made a big difference.

If only we could de-age him a few years, he'd be the missing piece in our midfield.
No, he passed the ball beyond Lindelof. If that impresses you then I don't know what to say. So we're praising him for talking to players now? What next?

He was an excellent player 5 years ago. He was good for us for 6 months, then after that he's been dump, and people have been inventing his influence in order to protect their original assertions of him.

With the game nearly ending and facing 6 draws I said to myself surely fecking not, this can't be ending with 6 fecking draws.

I think if Ole isn’t going to play McFred in matches like these than either Donny or Jesse needs to start alongside Scott. Honestly think Jesse wouldn’t be a bad option as he’s good on the ball and will actually defend. Pogba is utter dogs bollocks in CM.

Game of 2 halfs, my word, subs made the difference, Cavani awesome, Jesse he was great again , Matic was class didn't give a pass away . And DDG again thanks pal . And I was telling my Mrs Ronny has to come off. I hope this result puts some fighting spirt in these guys , because the 1st half was embarrassing and we should have been 3 down, the 2nd half has papered over the cracks I think . Does Cavani start on Sat I would . That guy chased everything and he made the difference would have loved his header to go in. Great win but that's what UTD do. Never dull. I thought it was such a poor 1st half then there goal, but I got to give it to them they dug in and pulled one out of the bag .
Yeah agreed. Would love to have Cavani start the next game. He surely deserves that.

My point was about Donny being left on the bench again, why are you bringing up groaning and gloating like you’ve just watched a team dominate and convincingly win a match? Ole having to bring on subs to rescue a game that, with the players he has at his disposal, we should be winning comfortably isn’t really something to sing and dance about long term is it? We would have been about 4-0 down had it not been for Villareals woeful finishing are you going to congratulate Ole for that too?
Just take the L. You bitched about Fred coming on instead of VDB, despite Fred coming on at fullback because of Telles picking up a knock. Fred puts in a great cross for the goal and you try desperately to downplay his part, and now you're trying to shift conversation away from what you ACTUALLY said. It's pathetic. Accepted you've made a tit of yourself and move on lad.

Thats a really tough watch. We should have let him go this summer. No excuse for promising he will play his part and not following through on that. He’s in the prime of his career.

Tbh thanks God that he scored the winning goal, but truth is apart from the goal he offered basically nothing. Credit to Ole to keep him on though. We were very lucky tonight and what a performance from De Gea.
He was quiet but I still think that’s more down to no penetration or killer passes into him, he’s not come here to run around like a mad man. Thought we were very luck, one day we might actually work on our deficiencies in training!

I don’t need Fred for that tbf.
My post is still relevant even after a mediocre cross from Fred.

The cross found it's exact intended target and delivered the desired result. It is really that simple.

Calling it mediocre is what trying justify oneself at all cost looks like.

Yay we won a game. While our rivals are winning UCL and EPL. What is the bar here. It seems like its making top 4. Or do we want to win the big trophies. If it's about titles then this isn't good enough.
We've seen this last season. How many games did Greenwood or Cavani or Fernandes win for us. Yet at the end we ended with no trophies.

UTD have stagnated. They are really good but not elite enough to win what matters.

If we are being honest here not many are expecting UTD to win either EPL or UCL this season. So we rinse and repeat while being overtaken in the trophy county

We are when it calms down players who were frantic, nobody else on the pitch had managed it so it deserves credit.

I'm well aware that he's been poor for us mostly, and he's only got 30 mins per match left in his legs, but he brings a great deal of experience that helped us gain some control in a match that we didn't have a midfield in before he came on.

Do you know that if we play that system that we played in first half with AWB , Shaw And Maguire it would be a lot better. Playing the 1 holder could work realy well with the attacking players we got. It didn't work very well today but it could work with practice.

It's not his fault that he can't run much anymore but in a match we can't control the midfield, or I'd say we have no midfield we'd need our attackers to press and run back to help. Otherwise it'll be like the first half we should have gone 0-3 by mid time. And he'll be very likely to be isolated. We needed to fix that midfield issue first before thinking about scoring goals. Because if not they would. And they did.

We were very lucky that Unai changed his team to sit back after scoring the first goal. A big mistake that cost him the game imo. Then Cavani pressing and running like a mad man and Matic helped us to control the game and process the ball forward. He's still very useful in the last 15' when the opponents are tired.

Winning is great but it is short term and doesn't mask the deep lying issues. You also have to be able to see the forest for the trees.

And that's my biggest issue. He can give the ball away several times, he can dawdle on the ball and play hospital passes just like he did tonight. But he doesn't even have to do anything and he's 'calming,' his 'experience' and 'influence' shines through. Doesn't matter what he actually does, it's what we've decided he does. Put Fred or VDB and it wouldn't be 'calming' or their 'influence,' it would be underhit passes and loose touches. No one should make that many mistakes coming on fresh under no pressure and be praised for it.

He was praised because we went from having no midfield to at least some semblance of a midfield.

By all means don't rate him, but tonight he was a net positive.

Brilliant, what a player. You know as well as I do, if Fred or VDB put in the exact same performance you wouldn't be using those words to describe it.

We’ll have to disagree about Ronaldo, but I agree that the midfield is a shambles. We shouldn’t need our no 9 to track back if the actual midfielders played their positions correctly. Plus Cavani was able to press like that cause he had just come on, he can’t do that all game at his age either.

The idea that a wondergoal that came from an incredibly basic set piece routine isn't a moment of individual brilliance is truly idiotic. You have completely outdone yourself in your relentless defend Ole at all costs crusade

    Relentless defence of Ole?

Try reading my post again and stop being such a bitter wanker.

I absolutely would. You're projecting you're own blind adherence to an opinion onto me. I've given Matic plenty of stick before, but whether you like it or not Matic improved us tonight.

That's why I said we should sub him and bring on a midfielder. I didn't say we should sub him for Cavani because it wouldn't solve the whole midfield issue. In a hindsight you can say if we subbed him he wouldn't be there to score the winning goal. But imo if we can control the midfield we'd be more likely to win the game. It's all about probability. We got lucky this time but we won't all the time.

Anyway, let's agree to disagree then.
