I think the problem is Smalling not holding the line. Like many times before, he doesn't understand that the central area of the box is where the danger is. I don't think he'll ever learn to be honest since he's 28.Watching Jones and Smalling play together is a comedy gold
Matic being on vacation mode also doesn't help of course, since there's no one to cover up for Smalling's mistakes.
Think the problem was Smalling man marking Crouch and leaving the space open inbetween them, so makes it look very bad.
