    ------------------------De Gea-------------

    Darmian-----Bailly-------Smalling----------Shaw

    ----------------Blind------Pogba----------------
    ----------------------Herrera----------------

    Valencia--------Ibrahimovic---------Mkhitaryan

Subs: Rooney Martial Depay Rojo Jones Mata
Fellaini was great on Sunday and Darmian and Jones are on borrowed time I would say.

About time we beat these at home! Have we done so since they came back up to the Prem?

I can remember successive 1-0 defeats under Van Gaal and a 1-1 under Moyes. Can't remember playing them again under SAF?

Anyway, i'm going for a 3-0 win. I'm really looking forward to this! It's been a while since i've been excited for the next United game as soon as the last one has finished!
Fergie did the double on them in his final season. Both times it was a close game though.

    My doubts:

Smalling to start and drop Blind? Looks really unfair, but could happen if Mourinho thinks Smalling is really his man for the season.
Darmian to make the bench instead of Rojo?
Carrick or Fellaini to start? Schneiderlin won't even make the bench.
Will Pogba start or only feature as sub?
Mata to keep the place as right-wing or Lingard to recover it? Not counting on Mkhitaryan to start right away.
What makes you think Schneiderlin won't make the bench? He got on ahead of Carrick yesterday.

The hate Fellaini receives is getting tiring. Was contender for MotM against Bournemouth and has played well under Jose thus far. I'd happily see him alongside Pogba.

Definitely. I've been a massive critic of Fellaini, but he's slowly winning me over.

    Think it will be this.

    My Prediction:-

    United: Zlatan
    Southampton: 0

Do we think Pogba will start or come on later on in the game? And if he starts will he get 90 Minutes considering it's his first competitive game?

Will be interesting to see who misses out, the obvious answer is Rooney unless we are going to play Pogba further back which would be silly in my opinion and go against what Jose has said about the Number 6,8 positions.

Martial looked like he had allot going on in his head right now so he may be rested. Perhaps Memphis will be given a runout and he may take his chance finally.

In regards to Rooney and Matta, despite them both scoring a goal, I think that Jose will not be fooled by the luck that came with those 2 goals and hopefully will consider the actual performances. I have a feeling Mkhitaryan will play (not sure if behind the striker or out on the right)
Some big decisions to be made.

I wouldn't mind Fellaini starting alongside Pogba, imagine how big our team would look with all those giant bastards up and down our lineup

    Carrack will definitely start.

I think Carrick will start too. We'll see him more in home matches. I predict a midfield of Carrick/Fellani with Pogba coming on Carrick around 65'.

I'm going with this for now.

    DDG
    Valencia - Bailly - Blind - Shaw
    Carrick - Fellaini
    Micki - Rooney - Martial
    Zlatan

subs: Pogba for Carrick, Jesse or Mata for Micki or Rooney, and maybe Smalling for Blind or Bailly to get some match minutes.

I find it interesting how Jose uses Carrick vs Herrera depending on the opponent. Leicester dont usually have midfield runners so he was fine with Carrick. Where as he wanted energetic mids vs Bournemouth because of the 433 they play. I think he may use Carrick Friday to help deal with their #10

    Which?

Surprised so many not starting Pogba. About 95% certain he'll start though he most likely won't last the 90 mins. He'll most likely be subbed at 60 mins but he'll definitely be in the first XI.

Now you have me second guessing my prediction. I think you're possible on to something but not convinced yet.

Can't see Pogba starting having not played a single minute since the Euro 2016 final. Can see him coming on for the last 30 minutes or so.

What makes you think Schneiderlin won't make the bench? He got on ahead of Carrick yesterday.
So, besides the two midfielders that will start, how much more midfielders do you expect to make the bench? Fellaini started both official games, Carrick and Herrera one each. United has 5 midfielders to 2 defensive midfield central-positions. Most probably there's always going to be at least 1 (or 2) that don't even make the bench (since there's a goalkeeper, a center-back, maybe a full-back, a creative player, a winger, and a forward in the bench). From what we've seen so far, the most likely to be left out come Friday, for me, is Schneiderlin, unless one of Mkhitaryan or Mata don't make the bench too, which I find difficult to happen. Since it's a game against his former team, maybe Schneiderlin gets picked up ahead of Fellaini or Herrera. I think Carrick will start, so…

It's a fairly obvious point I made, our first competitive game and Carrick didn't even get on the pitch. What makes you think Carrick will start?

i just don't see pogba starting. new additions to a squad rarely start straight from the off, especially when they've only recently come back from holiday.

His pass chart on Sky Sports showed that he didn't play any passes into the box, they were pretty much all to the right when he was just outside the box.

I get a feeling that Micki might get his first start of the season.

In the Stretford End for this one. We will never put out the following team but it's what I hope for:
    DDG
    Valencia Smalling Bailly Shaw
    Pogba Blind
    Rashford MkHitryan Martial
    Ibrahimovic

    Ibrahimović
    Martial-------------------------Lingard
    Pogba-----------
    ----------Schneiderlin
    Herrera
    Shaw-------Blind----Bailly-------Valencia
    De Gea
Herrera sitting infront of the back 4 and Schneiderlin ahead of him? Not having that.

Does anyone know if Jose changes his formation up depending on home or away games? Like 433 for home games etc..?
No, doesn't happen. Unless at big games, like City away, for instance. What happens when home or away is that he changes the type of player who's playing at a determinate position. One example of that kind of the change, although during the game, was when Schneiderlin got in against Bournemouth, and some people saw a change in the system, but it was just Herrera occupying the #10 for the remaining minutes, not involving any inversion of the midfield triangle.

    De Gea
    Valencia-Bailly-Blind-Shaw
    Fellaini-Pogba
    Mkhitaryan-Rooney-Martial
    Zlatan
