PAOK FC (Greek: ΠΑΕ ΠΑΟΚ, "Pan-Thessalonian Athletic Club of Constantinopolitans", commonly known as PAOK Thessaloniki, PAOK Salonika or simply PAOK, is a Greek professional football club based in Thessaloniki, Macedonia, Greece.

PAOK FC is the oldest department of the major multi-sport club AC P.A.O.K., which is closely linked with Hermes Sports Club, that was formed in 1875 by the Greek community of Pera, a district of Istanbul (Constantinople). The football club was founded in April 1926 by Constantinopolitan who fled to Thessaloniki after the Greek defeat in the Greco-Turkish War. PAOK's policy was to be open to every citizen of Thessaloniki, leading to a minor rivalry with Athlitiki Enosis Konstantinoupoliton Thessalonikis, the other Constantinopolitan club of the city, in which only refugees were allowed to play. Both clubs were founded by Enosis Konstantinoupoliton Thessalonikis (E.K.Th.), a social and political organisation.

PAOK have won the Super League Greece four times (in 1976, 1985, 2019 and 2024). They are eight-time winners of the Greek Cup (in 1972, 1974, 2001, 2003, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2021). The club is one of the three which have never been relegated from the top national division.

The rivalry between Olympiacos and PAOK is the fiercest intercity football rivalry in Greece and is long-standing, emerging in the 1960s. A longtime heated rivalry exists between PAOK and local rivals Aris. Panathinaikos and AEK, Athens' two big clubs, are also considered major rivals. There are also some less intense rivalries, like those with Iraklis (local conflict) and AEL. PAOK play their home games at the Toumba Stadium.

Last European win for Man United was against Copenhagen 1-0 October last year, It was the last match I attended and I'll be attendance again this Thursday. Hopefully I see long overdue European win for Man United.

We really need the 3 points, but Leicester is the priority game for me. Some slight rotation.

    Onana
Dalot - De Ligt - Lindelof - Mazraoui
    Ugarte - Bruno
    Amad - Eriksen - Rashford
    Zirkzee

Zirkzee could desperately do with a goal. Id be tempted to get him and hojlund up front for this one. We're not scoring enough so maybe we need to change it up.

    Bayindir

    Mazraoui
    Lindelof
    Evans
    Dalot

    Fernandes
    Ugarte
    Casemiro
    Diallo

    Zirkzee
    Hojlund

    They didn't. Different clubs

PAOK is short for Panthessalonikios Athlitikos Omilos Konstantinoupoliton.
Got to admire the Greeks' ability to toss around letters like confetti but somehow still end up with two clubs practically called the same thing.

This game starts at 11pm here and our Thursday evening is basically the caf's Friday evening. Not sure I wanna waste the start of my weekend with this

I mean we can desperately do with a goal, or two. Playing a striker who can't score for toffee isn't conducive to that.

I'd very much prefer to get Hojlund scoring considering a) He's likely to be Amorim's choice going forward and b) Unlike Zirkzee, has proven he can score goals.

If there is a place for Zirkzee under Amorim it'll almost certainly be in the no.10 positions. Otherwise we shouldn't be trying to shoehorn him into the side based on little merit.

I get that, but the alternative is persisting with rashford and garnacho midweek, who probably cant claim to have earned another start either. Im not sure zirkzee gets much from short cameos and a midweek tie against a team we really should be putting away seems like a good opportunity.

I had to look up where this club are from.

If we fail to win this we should legitimately play academy kids for the remainder of our Europa matches.

I know next to nothing about PAOK Salonika but I see they're 2nd in the Greek league so they're probably not as bad as we think!

However, they're even lower than us in the Europa League standings so if we can't turn them over at home, we should seriously consider withdrawing from this year's competition to save ourselves any further embarrassment.

Not much scope for rotation. Surely Amad should start. It would be an ideal game for Zirkzee to start but honestly he's been so bad even in his substitute appearances that Ruud might not even risk it, and go with the safer option of Hojlund.

Mainoo is out until late November and Mount is in the Bermuda triangle as usual, so unless Eriksen is back fit in time, it'll have to be the same mf 3 of Case, Ugarte & Bruno.

A bit more scope for rotation in defence. I think Dalot could do with a rest if Ruud picks Lindelof to play right back. Or maybe Maz right back, Martinez LB and a central defence of de Ligt-Evans. But I have a feeling he's gonna go with Dalot again.

An absolute must-win game - I could imagine Ruud putting out the same team that he did against Chelsea (with maybe Amad rotated in for Garnacho).

Amad needs to start 100%, could this game not be a good one for Amass to get a run out too? Hojlund could do with a goal and I'll bet that this is where he'll get it.

Yes for Panthessalonikios Athlitikos Omilos Konstantinoupoliton, you can see why their name is made short.
Konstantinoupol is the Greek for Istanbul innit? Yet I always remember them referred to as PAOK Salonika which is again, a city the has been in Greek/Turkish hands, yet a fair distance, well outside Istanbul. Confusing. Don’t know where they come from.

The likes of Amad and Antony should be in for this one. Rest Garnacho and Rashford completely. Mount should play, but won't/can't. Maguire, Evans, Amass should be given a game.

If our B team can't beat this team, then there is no hope for us at all.

The club was established by Greek refugees from Istanbul/Constantinople who fled to Thessaloniki after the Greco-Turkish war of 1919-1922. The letter K (=Constantinople/Istanbul) indicates the roots of the people who founded the club. The letter P (=All-Thessalonician, meaning that the club is open to everyone), as well as the name of the city after the abbreviation used by UEFA, tells where the club is from. It's the same with AEK Athens, where the K also stands for Constantinople.

Nice run of home games for Ruud's time as boss. Hope to see an emphatic win to get us back on track in the EL.

Need to get the forwards belief back up. This should be target practice that hopefully gets us in the mood for the weekend. Fill yer boots and go into the weekend happy. I can see us having something of a resurgence now under the new manager. Top 4 could still be on if we can dispatch the teams under us and stop getting beaten in every tough game. 3 at the back should make us harder to beat in theory
