I thought the whole point of bringing in ETH and new coaching staff was to actually coach these players into a 'philosophy' that would see us transformed into a top team!

So why have we seen barely no changes into style or patterns of play?
You could pick many matches over the last few seasons, under mourinho, Ole, even when Giggs took over briefly, and rangnick, and the football is barely any different!

This is another game whereby you'd have to question just what was the game plan and what did they do on the training ground for this match that was different from the prep for other games? I'm starting to get very disillusioned that ETH is not really good enough and maybe the players are feeling it too.

    A noteworthy post.

They've got more points than us. Think we have to better their result against us in the last game. Not with that sort of finishing we won't. That is if we win the next game of course.
Lord. We need to brainwash the forwards into making better decisions in front of goal otherwise we ain't gonna be outscoring anyone.
Imagine we finish second and end up having to play Barca or worse like Atleti (sigh)

The negativity in here was weird to me. If we had not tried, tested the keeper, created chances etc then I would have understood.
We dominated from start to finish, creating crazy chances just that our forwards had a bad day.

Are we as fans not suppose to find encouragement in that and actually cheer the team on to the next game even ifthe game ended in a draw? especially coming after our good performances against Everton.

Good post, agreed entirely. Sorry though, there is only pessimism and hatred for the team we support allowed in this thread .

    Sack Frogie, sell Goggs.

It's incredible isn't it? The same fans would also be going after the team if we had played sluggishly bad and not tested the keeper but scored from our only shot. Dominating doesn't always equate to winning but one can sure appreciate effort.

We desperately need a CF - not talking world class here, semi-decent player that can hold up the ball, with good pace and movement.

We had chances yes, but every game with Ronaldo up front is a chore. It was the same last season - even with the goals, and was the same today. He didn't play badly, but didn't make things happen either. He's a bonafide goalscorer when on form, even if that trait seems to have left him, but he's not a CF, and we severely lack that cohesion in the final third.

I can't blame him for the brainless crosses his teammates were putting in though. It's almost like they were thinking "he's Ronaldo, just cross the ball anywhere in the box and even if he's sandwiched between 2 defenders, he'll arrow it into the bottom corner with his head" :wenger:

I remember it was a complaint from Ajax fans tbf. So it's not an exception because they're all must wins.

This is the "easiest" game we will play all season. Home against a team from Cyprus. The fact that Heaton/Dubravka, Elanga, or even Sancho who is just off form aren't getting in here just means he doesn't like to rotate in the slightest IMO. Not too worried, he'll learn but it's definitely something he'll have to learn to trust to do
    About that…

Ah you can see improvements in our play that's come from coaching and work on the training ground. Quick combination patterns of play, players moving it bit quicker and with intensity. See we are working on inverted full backs. Dalot and Malicia moving in to Central postions higher up the pitch, give us extra options in possesion.

Just need a better right back then Dalot and a number 9 and another midfielder.

It shouldn't really be an either or. We need both

Perhaps this belongs on another thread, but I'll just say here that we arguably need upgrades at the following positions:

GK (many here would like to get rid of De Gea)
A fourth CB (assuming Maguire will have to be sold)
Starting or backup RB (depending on how Dalot develops this season)
An 8 (we're all assuming that Erikson is not the long term answer and that Fred is a squad man at best)
A 10 (Bruno is looking less and less the part as every month passes by)
A 9 (Ronaldo will be gone and Martial is neither convincing nor dependable in terms of fitness)

Of all of these positions, the one that cries out the latest for a reinforcement is a 9.

Maybe the players shouldn't miss so many sitters. I'm sure that's not part of ETH's training program.

Classic football match really…happens all the time.

Getting 10 men behind the ball and having 1-2 counters is a great tactic for a smaller/weaker team.

Breaking a team down is not as easy as it looks either. But United kept going and eventually got when they deserved.

    Another Win for EtH!

It’ll take at least another full transfer window for ETH to strengthen the squad, thus making any relevant changes. Until this happens it just seems unnecessary to criticise him over individual performances of the players, we desperately need a proven striker for a start.

I’d defend any new manager who’d inherited the squad we had up until recently.

If you don't see a difference in style of play over all those managers.. I think the issue is you don't actually watch the games or just don't understand the game. I genuinely cannot fathom how anyone could think this.
