How far is Blind with his recovery. The last think i heard about him was that he was at his parents house and that he had food poisoning before Aston Villa match.. We need him in midfield to dictate the tempo with Carrick ASAP.

I would like to see something like:

    -----------------De Gea---------------------
    ---------Jones---Carrick---Rojo------------
    Rafa--------------Blind------------Shaw/Young
    ------------Rooney-----Di Maria--------------
    ----------------RVP--Falcao------------------

RVP dropping back in number 10 role. This team could really dictate play from the back through Carrick and Blind and could be very flexible in front.

    ---------------DeGea-------------
    -------Jones-Smalling-Rojo-------
    Rafael--------Carrick-------Young
    -------Fellaini--------DiMaria-----
    -------Falcao---------Rooney-----

Save RvP for Tottenham. Smalling and Rojo is a tough call, but physioroom say they are back for this match and they should be fit since they have started not long time ago.

    If all fit

    Rafa---Smalling---Rojo----Young
    ------Carrick--------Blind-------
    ---Herrera-----Rooney-----Di Maria--
    ------------Falcao-------------

    What most of us except

    Valencia---Jones---Rojo----Young
    ------------Carrick--------
    ---Herrera----------Di Maria--
    -----------Rooney-------------
    ----------RVP--Falcao-------------

    What actually LVG will give

    -----Jones----Carrick-----Evans---------
    -Valencia--------------------------Young---
    --------Fellaini---------Rooney--------------
    ----------------Di Maria--------------------
    ----------RVP------------FALCAO------------

Is Shaw expected to be back for this?

Reports says that he'll be back at 28th december, so I doubt it. Not the worst position to have an injury atm though..It's worse with the midfield if we still have Herrera(injury), Blind(injury) and Fellaini(ill) out...Van Gaal hasn't updated us on this yet. Good thing is that Di Maria is fully fit again, we really need him. Hopefully Rojo will be ready too, so he can take Evans place. Carrick needs to play CM and not CB. So if it turns out that Fella, Herrera and Blind is still out, I'd like to see Pereira together with Carrick and Di Maria instead of Fletcher, who really struggled against Villas midfield. At top I'd like to see Rooney behind RvP and Falcao, because Newcastle has a pretty strong team which doesn't suit Mata well. Wilson, Mata and Januzaj as our jokers to put on if we need goals.

    Attack Attack Attack

Hopefully Di Maria, Rafael and Falcao all start. Need to get an attack minded set up back.
    No Fletcher, Valencia

Newcastle look shite... injury problems, but they're there to be beaten.

Just lost at home to Sunderland, 1-0 and the only goal scored in added time.

Seemed very vulnerable on the counter attack, Sunderland could have won by a margin if they were more clinical but I don't see us playing for the counter at home. If we play with some width it'll be a breeze.

Moussa Sissoko is the only real threat really, very direct runner, driving at the defence.

Newcastle will turn up playing like fecking Madrid! We need to get right at them from the start I really hope Fletcher isn't anywhere near the first team.

    ----------DDG---------
    Rafael---Jones---Rojo----Shaw
    ------------Carrick--------
    ---Herrera----------Di Maria--
    -----------Rooney-------------
    ----------RVP--Falcao-------------

    4-3-3/4-4-2 diamond for me.

If we play 3 at the back I swear to god...........

Diamond is the way to go, why can't LVG see that? it's infuriating.

    GK- Dave

    RB- Rafa
    CB- Jones/McNair/rojo/Blackett
    LB- young

    CDM- Carrick

    CM- Fellaini + Herrera

    CAM- Di Maria

    ST- Rooney + Falcao

That team will win matches, Absolutely no doubt.

So were Villa.. then again that was away from home where we've been shite all season. At Old Trafford we should be putting Newcastle away.

Whilst we should have beaten Villa in the end, especially with the extra man, I always thought it was going to be a tricky fixture. Mainly because of our away form. Newcastle at home, as you say, should be a routine victory.

I would like to think coming off the Villa result, we could perform with a bit more flair and be more clinical with our chances. 2-0 and a comfortable win.

We have to stop the 3-5-2 formation, it's not good enough.

    ------------De Gea-------------
    -Rafael-Jones-Blackett-Young-
    ------------Carrick-------------
    ------Valencia--Di Maria------
    ------------Rooney------------
    ---------Falcao--RVP----------

This is the sort of lineup that looks a lot more sensible.

Di Maria and Valencia gives a nice balance, as both can get out wide and attack when it's time, but can also sit in and work hard.

Will we see Falcao finally start to fly? Can it work with 2 strikers of his and VP type?
People said Rooney and VP wasn't a great combo, but at least Rooney can drop back. Those 2 both seem penalty box masters who need a lot of chances created.

Didn't realise we kick off against Spurs at 12pm on the 28th.

Think we'll have half an eye on that so no idea what we'll go with for Newcastle but we could do with getting the three points.

Perhaps van Persie might be rested as doubt he'll play in both. Not sure Falcao will either so might be one starting in each. Expect Rafael and Januzaj or Wilson to be in contention for this one too.

I don't understand how liverpool have switched to the back three for this past week and look so much more comfortable on the ball than us? its crazy how they have just picked it up and have inferior players to us yet we are an absolute horror show week in week out..

Moussa Sissoko is the only real threat really, very direct runner, driving at the defence.

I think Cisse is a threat too, if they can feed him the ball in the right areas. He's a very powerful player, though largely inconsistent. He's certainly got it in him to make centre backs look silly, but only when he wants to. He could definitely tear all our CBs apart in the air. Shame Smalling will probably miss this one.

I actually don't think we have even nearly controlled a game since blind has been out and we haven't been playing at all well either in any case. It was the same in fergies last season- slow predictable football with good results on paper. We should be seeing so much more attacking intent from this group of players. there's no doubt about it. The philosophy looks like its win by any means at the moment (back5) when it's clear to see the diamond is where we are most likely to beat teams by a few goals. Earlier on in the season LVG had a seriously depleted squad but now he should be making the correct decisions with line-ups, formations and substitutions and we should be seeing the start of something resembling good football right? It's not like this squad didn't cost a fortune! Rooney as a supporting striker is as deep as he should play. The cross field ball over and over again really does my head in and thats as creative as he gets back there. he doesn't do enough attacking or defensively from central midfield. If he drove forward and actually offered some kind of attacking threat or a final ball then grand but he's being wasted so deep imo.
If this game is as tumescent as the villa one and we make the same mistakes with the same result then some questions will need to be asked about this philosophy. Maybe there is no quick fix but 150 million quid added to the squad we had should get you title challenge, there's no other way to look at it.

How long will people bang about 150 mil when all of our additions have been injured a while and I dont know when did they last play together.

They're repeating that like a mantra and it's annoying.

Anyway they lost at home to Sunderland, we really should beat them although I know football doesnt work like that.

    -------------------------------De Gea------------------------------
    ---Rafael-------------Jones------------Evans-----------Young----
    -------------------------------Carrick------------------------------
    -----------------------Fellaini----------Herrera---------------------
    --------------------------------Di Maria------------------------------
    -----------------------Rooney------------Falcao/RVP-----------------

Must win game against a poor Newcastle side in bad form right now.

Don't want to see Mata or Fletcher anywhere near this team on boxing day.

Switch Rooney and Di Maria and this is exactly what I'd like to see. Apart from maybe Evans. Any CBs back for this?

I haven't put Evans there by choice haha and I think Rojo might be back but Smalling might need another week or so. Why do you want Di Maria up front? I think he's more effective in the hole or in a 3 man midfield.

Agree with you here, they pretty much dominated arsenal in that first half, created loads against us but their defence is much poorer but they seem to have better fluidity and a quicker tempo.

352 probably could work for us if we get all our cb's and midfielders fit and we added tempo and pace to our passing and overall play.

They've managed to lose to us 3-0, barely beat Bournemouth, and have snatched a draw from defeat against Arsenal at Anfield (with the help of 9mins ET). Meanwhile, we've managed 16 points out of a possible 18.

But you're right, they look fantastic.

Not to mention the fact they haven't "just picked up". Rodgers has been trying it on and off for 18 months and will no doubt have been coaching it during that time.

You don't think we controlled the games against Hull and Stoke?

I dont think Rooney- RVP- Falcao should ever start together, our attack and team lacks balance as Rooney drops deep which sacrifices his goal threat, RVP also cannot move into the "spaces" he infamously said he need in order to create chances as he splits the penalty box with Falcao, who himself would benefit from being the playmakers sole concentration rather than a wingers target man. I think there's too many issues regarding pace, penetration, a lack of chemistry, team balance. Theres too much going on, the aim should be to score goals, as many as possible, not play as many strikers as possible.

Wilson is a much more viable option as he has fresh fast legs, he spreads defences, he is willing to play down the wings and track, the boys a tad naive and very inexperienced but having him alongside either RVP or Falcao is better than both of whom struggle to link due to being in each others way. Instinctively, both are greedy and want the goal more than they want to set up each other, even if they were unselfish, that split second delay in decision making is costing us goal. Like Rooney + RVP, true partnership cannot be formed as they do not compliment each other aswell as Rooney's past partnerships have, I doubt there would be more luck with similar sort in Falcao.

Newcastle are truly awful but wat h them play a blinder against us. I don't understand why it's always us poor teams find form. Game raising c*nts.

We are unbeaten for 7 games. We have won 6 of those games.
Liverpool are 10 points behind us in the league.
Where exactly are you seeing this "horror show"?

This is what I asked Santa for Christmas:

Back four with a diamond. No Evans, no Fletcher, Rooney in the hole.

Do that and the wins will fall from the sky.

We can feck about with a back 3 next season, if we gave the players fir it.
