giving our first choice CB pairing a rest and not forcing them to play twice in 48 hours is fairly sensible.

Also don't think of this as Fellaini starting. Think of it as Fellaini ensuring Carrick is in the team Monday.

Mourinho will want Fellaini to just do the simple stuff. Which is what he did in the opening home game against Southampton and did a sufficient job.

Could be a smart move by Mourinho, if Fellaini follows instructions, it'll dampen the disdain felt towards him.
No chance. He's followed manager instructions every time he has played and has been despised for the past few years.

    Carrick update
He is unwell, so maybe he would have started.

Michael Carrick misses today's game through illness. #MUFC#MUNMID

    2:12 PM - 31 Dec 2016

Darn, I was looking forward to seeing Mata combine with the likes of Martial and Mkhi today.

Brilliant, another time for that donkey to shine. Why are our managers so determined to play him? He offers nothing extra this season as we have enough height in the team already. Maybe JM is hoping he can rile up the Borough defence and get a couple of bookings their way.

Yeah, please Herrera in holding. Fellaini cannot do a job there.
Fellaini cant do a job anywhere tbf. He ruins the play wherever he is on the pitch. Further forward and he gets in the way of miki, martial, ibra and pogba linking up. In a holding role he holds back the build up play and is a risk to give away free kicks and pens because he is clumsy as feck. The game plan should be whats the best way to play around him so he doesnt get in the way.

Fellaini over Mata. At least that means Pogba can continue to thrive with license ahead.

Thought Fellaini would be a better fit v West Ham if anything, with the likes of Carroll to try and out goon.

Good to see Martial get a start. Would love to see him run in with the ball from the left like we saw so much last season, and make mincemeat of their full back. He really needs a goal and a positive impact on the game. Home game against a pretty hopeless Boro would be a good day to get back on track. He shouldn't have much tracking back to do. He should be able to go at them full tilt. I hope he can do that and get a full 90 under his belt.

Ahem, oh I mean, fecking Fellaini. Rabble rabble bog brush. Something something Moyes. Negativity and misery, and whatnot.

Fellaini slightly ruins that lineup. Last time we played with that midfield 3 we were demolished against Chelsea.

Why can't Mou play Mata in there I never know.

Because he's a luxury player, and we need Fellaini in there to free up Pogba.

Carrick illness otherwise I bet he would be starting. I knew Jose would be making minimal changes unless they were forced which this one is, therefore I won't complain about the Fellaini inclusive.

We need 3 points today. Absolutely no excuses.

No chance. He's followed manager instructions every time he has played and has been despised for the past few years.
I think his performances earlier in the season helped his likeness with the fans by quite a bit. Then he decided to lose us 3 valuable points against Everton with his stupidity and everyone has given up on him again, including me.

We really need another b2b midfielder to rotate with Herrera and pogba. Somebody like Vidal / nainggolan would be perfect. No disrespect to fellaini but his passing and goal threat isn't good enough.

Yep absolutely, or possibly Essien/Makelele type player if we struggle to find a replacement for Carrick.

Carrick is ill? May not start Monday unless it's bs from Jose.

And Carrick, don't eat dairy when you're sick.

Hopefully Ander drops in front of the back four. He's much better than Fellaini defensively.

Yeah Ander in Carrick's position and Fellaini in Herrera's is what I would prefer. i remember Fellaini playing mostly on the left side of the midfield 3 when van Gaal used the 4-1-4-1

After my initial anger, that'd be our best team if Shaw and Carrick were there so can't be too mad.

    Very important goals too.

He's played much less too this season so that us another factor(Not bothered in arguing whether that is right/ wrong)

Well I disagree with your statement Fellani gets a fair amount of goals but yeah I can't be bothered arguing about it with you.

So Martial is given another chance, let's hope he shows something positive today.
