It was a 50/50 challenge and Ibra had every right to go for it. If you watch the replay carefully you will see Ibra lower his leg in order to avoid contact with Valdes thus nullifying any potential threat posed. It was not dangerous play in any way shape or form.

The decision to disallow it was born out of pure incompetence based entirely on cowardice.

I understand but it's not that easy to see for the ref as it happened. He probably saw him go in with the high foot then saw Valdes on the ground in pain and assumed he hit him.
