Manchester City Football Club (nicknamed City, The Citizens, and The Sky Blues), are a professional football club based in Manchester, England. City were founded in 1880 as St. Mark's (West Gorton), before being renamed as Ardwick Association Football Club in 1887, and finally Manchester City in 1894 - and the origins can be traced back to members of St. Mark's Church of England, West Gorton — who founded the football club that would become known as Manchester City, for largely humanitarian purposes. Two church wardens sought to curb local gang violence and alcoholism by instituting new activities for local men, whilst high unemployment plagued East Manchester, specifically Gorton. All men were welcome to join, regardless of religion.

The team's first recorded match occurred on 13 November 1880, and City gained their first honors by winning the Second Division in 1899 — with it came promotion to the highest level in English football, the First Division. In the seasons following the FA Cup triumph of 1904, the club was dogged by allegations of financial irregularities, culminating in the suspension of seventeen players in 1904, including captain Billy Meredith, who subsequently moved across town to Manchester United. Almost half a century later later, a City team inspired by a tactical system known as the Revie Plan reached consecutive FA Cup finals again, in 1955 and 1956; just as in the 1930s, they lost the first one, to Newcastle United, and won the second. The club continued to challenge for honors throughout the 1970s, finishing one point behind the league champions on two occasions and reaching the final of the 1974 League Cup.

Prior to the takeover by the Abu Dhabi United Group in 2008, the club had enjoyed moderate levels of success through their history — however, since the start of the current decade, City have been buoyed by the signings of Sergio Agüero, Yaya Touré, David Silva, Vincent Kompany — and have emerged as perpetual title contenders, winning the league 8 times in 12 years and repeatedly finishing in the Top 3. City play their homes games at the Etihad Stadium, and their biggest rivals are neighbors and opponents for the game, Manchester United.

I’d rest the few indispensable players we have for Lyon that we can’t afford to risk with injuries. That tie is our season. Yes this is a derby but this isn’t normal circumstances.

City will be fully focused on this having no European games and having to finish in top 4/5. Our defence dealt fine with Haaland last 2 times but he won't be playing now and kinda worried that Marmoush fella will cause us more problems.

Europa League away in Lyon four days later far more important than this game but no doubt Ruben will go full strength seeing that it's a derby.

Queue 75 pages of posts about resting players even though Amorim has stated this won’t be the case..

Could see us winning 2-0. They aren’t as good defensively as Forest and we should have won today. We had our rest last week. Full strength for me.

Love to think we could get something from this but we don't score enough goals. At least Halaand won't mysteriously remember how to score a hat trick!

Wonder if we'll let them possession and play low block in first half like against Arsenal. Back in December I liked our shape against them and we basically had some amount of possession as City did. It's not City from last seasons and they don't dominate games like they used to but they stabilized compared to November/December and are in contention for top 4.

Just fear after Tuesday we could be going into a period a bit of losing streak domestically which is going to be BAD for confidence.

You just know if we lose against City, the media and keyboard warriors are going to be on Amorim's back once again and the pressure on the players for Thursday will be incredible - then we have Newcastle before playing Lyon again.

Its time to turn X off for a while I think if Sunday doesn't go our way.

Everyone knows all our eggs are in the EL basket. No one cares about the PL results anymore. We're not getting relegated and we're out of the other cups.

If anything, the only pressure on the players for the remaining PL matches is
showing Amorim that they're part of his future teams.

And staying off twitter is a good idea regardless of how the team performs.

We are still called Manchester United, pressure and criticism is normal. Or we should change our name to Cambridge United and play in yellow?

City have a lovely free shot at us here given they have no midweek fixtures, while we have Lyon to keep an eye on.

I’ll take a loss here if it meant our players come out of it healthy for Thursday. Hoping we can do something against them. Ironically this is both City and our worst season for years.

Yeh I get that, and whilst I completely agree, there is no denying that losses don't have any affect on the players morale and supporters too.

I just think we need to tread carefully and treat the City game like its a title decider.

Do we really want to be travelling to Lyon off the back of 2 PL losses in a row, and a potential hammering from our neighbours?

I’ll take a win and no injuries but that’s just me.

Squad depth is finally looking healthy again. Obviously Lyon is the priority but I'd have no problem playing a strong side against City. We have the squad to cope.

Think we can actually get after them a bit, although the main weakness of City (lack of athleticism and PnP in the middle of the park) is also a big weakness of ours.

Think it'll take a stroke of luck for us to win though, because I simply don't see how we have any sort of attacking quality to hurt them if it's not Bruno dragging us across the finish line.

We need to channel our inner Crystal Palace and game raise for this one. Not much to enjoy in this season but if we can in some way contribute to City finishing 6th or lower and missing out on next seasons CL it will be a job well done.

By day's end,we would be 39 points behind Liverpool. More points than we have achieved this season.
    Incredible.

Of course I want us to win any game against that lot but the big one is on Thursday against Lyon. I’ll be more gutted if we got a negative result in that game than this one. This derby is more must win for them than it was for us.

I think the priority will be Lyon next week. It's still a derby game so important to win. Wouldn't shock me if we get a win or lost. Anything can happen in these type of games, sometimes form doesn't matter.

Have a feeling he will rest one of the key players or take them off early.

    Onana
    Mazraoui De Ligt Yoro
    Dalot Ugarte Casemiro Dorgu
    Garnacho Bruno
    Zirkzee
Can see Hojlund starting just to have more pace on the break and benching Casemiro or Ugarte, but I'd keep the legs in the middle.
