That didn't happen though. He played in a pivot with McTominay and that's a different thing altogether.

Part of why I'm so excited about this game is because of Casemiro playing to be honest. In the 6-3, they scored once when Varane was off the pitch and twice when he was on it but injured and not moving right, iirc.

If he stays fit this time, him, Casemiro and Varane is a great base.

I stand corrected. Would you play pivot of Cas and Eriksen then?

I personally would feel much more comfortable seeing Fred and Casemiro in the engine room but I guess there were a lot of different factors as you mentioned, as to why we conceded so many on the day.

    Genuinely.

I have a horrible feeling we'll try and blow them out of the water gung ho and they'll be 3-0 up in 10 minutes from counter attacks.
If anyone is going to win via counter attacks it's us

If we try and force it they'll run rings around us, we need to be patient and stop the service to Haaland as much as possible

Main concern has to Haaland on the counter. The pitch at OT is huge, and we will probably have a decent share of the ball, so breaks can happen.

My wife has attended 10 matches this season. We have won all 10. We are 2-1-2 in the 5 matches she couldn’t go. As it stands, she won’t be attending this weekend…

Other than that, I feel confident about us this weekend. Excited even.

Get Pellistri on that bench instead of Elanga as Weghorst won't be here until at least Palace game

    Assuming everyone is fit:

    De Gea
    Dalot Varane Martinez Shaw
    Casemiro Eriksen
    Antony Bruno Rashford
    Martial

I would like to see us go toe-to-toe with City while they have looked distinctly average by their standards just before and just after the World Cup... Albeit I'm sure those wins against Chelsea have gone a long way to brushing that behind them (and Arsenal giving them a sniff by dropping points for the first time in a while recently). We're at home, so need to try and play our game as much as we can. We're a far better and more structured side since we last played them and have just won eight on the bounce even if we haven't really played a top side (only top side to beat us was City anyway).

I wouldn't be surprised if EtH is a little worried about the midfield. He may opt to drop one of Martial or Antony in favour of Fred even if our starting XI usually feels more balanced with those players. If City are at it, they can bash a couple of goals past us in no time, even if we aren't playing particularly poorly. We froze last time, so let's hope we can take the game to them a bit more and be competitive. It was an odd game last time as I think we probably should have nicked another goal funnily enough, but we were trounced so badly it felt weird that we only lost by three.

Some other interesting bits though - Dalot could be injured, it looked like he signalled it being more of a small tweak and it wasn't worth risking, but we'll see how he is on the weekend. Wan-Bissaka having recent minutes and looking decent helps. The other is at CB... I'm hoping those sub appearances and tonight gave Martinez enough to get rid of any ring rust. He made some good challenges at times, but that was definitely one of his weaker performances against Chartlon and I wouldn't be surprised if EtH goes with someone else.

This is the real test to see where we are and if this team can actually defend.

The 6-3 showcased our naivety in defending in midfield areas, wide areas and in the box. We didn't track runners, we didn't cut passing lanes, we watched Foden ghosting around for fun. You can forgive the Haaland hat trick, because it's Haaland, but the Foden hat trick was a piss-take.

The hope here is a bang in form Casemiro improves us naturally, but our full backs and wingers have to stop the delivery whilst one of the other midfielders makes sure De Bruyne has no time to slip one through either. Obviously it's a mega task but it's an opportunity for them to get involved in a possible title race - especially with the upcoming fixture against Arsenal. If that isn't enough motivation to put in a performance and show real improvement from last time, there isn't much else you can do from Ten Hag's perspective other than continue pulling the team apart and rebuilding it with each passing transfer window.

    We are 100% winning this.

Disclaimer: We might not actually win.

Pellistri on bench and Elanga off out on loan instead of the other way round please

Anything could happen. Home advantage could be a factor. With Casemiro in midfield, I can't see them getting the same kind of joy that they had at the Emptyhad.

Much as I want us to win I fear the difference in bench options will prove crucial

Looking for Rashford to continue his run, however, he needs to pass more....seems like he's trying to do it all himself at times.

The champions will bring us back down to earth. 0-3.

We have a point to prove after last time. Let's work hard and show our progression. Rashford last minute winner would be incredible.

Hopefully the players will be motivated by what happened previously. I'm cautiously optimistic we can beat them or at least give them a much better game.

At least this time, in theory, two things shouldn't happen that helped City before: Dalot getting booked within the first five minutes and Eriksen (I think) refusing to commit an obvious tactical foul on the break which resulted in an easy counter attacking goal for them. Casemiro playing and in form is another huge plus for us.

    3-2 United

What's with Pep saying that he has some ridiculous ideas to beat united? Either he is going with something different or just trying to rattle united. It's on the bbc.

Either way, this game is too soon in the United leaving curve, just hoping it's not a big loss. Rather a 0-2 with a decent performance by united.

    Please win united :nervous:

Yeah I saw that they asked Ornstein and Duncker about it on back pages thing on SSN but they didn't know what it meant

Come on guys. Have some faith in ETH and the team. We've been improving a lot since and ETH is absolutely no doubt a fantastic manager.

We surely might lose but no way we'd got spanked like last time. I actually have some very good feeling and is looking forward to Sat. Been a very looooong time I can say this going into a match against City

I really don't know. Part of me is desperate to say we're at home, we're in form, play our game. But if course, it could go horribly wrong.

But something I'm more confident of this season is a loss won't derail us. We've got more bouncebackability (shout-out Ian Holloway) this year.

I'm sure ETH learned from 6-3 defeat. We looked flat and slow in that one and in this one we're coming confident and on a nice winning streak. As it was said even if we lose we'll bounce back imidiately cause we seem to have a backbone now. But I'm hoping for a good result, if we begin the game on a right note and not on a back step we'll be all right. We might need a midfield 3 for this one or Fred starting, he deserves it and he has to legs to combate them.

God those wankers at blue moon are insufferable (still obsessed with Fergie to), hope we feck them up bad, although I doubt we will.

As well as we have been playing and as much as we'e been getting results, I can't see us getting much (if anything at all) from this game. City are still miles ahead of us, sadly. Varane and Martines will need to have worldies and the full backs have no room for mistakes...

I would like to see Garnacho get a start, he might be able to surprise them and hit them with his speed. Maybe have Antony on the other wing to pull their defence wide.

I'm confident in the performance of our back 5, plus Casemiro but it's the other end that worries me about this game. Eriksen does not give too much confidence to me in a 2 man midfield and bruno in front of him is even worse considering the number of times he gives up possession in very dangerous areas. Could consider playing Fred from the start.

It might not be a bad idea to take a leaf out of ole's playbook for this one. Especially since we have a massive upgrade on Mctominay now and much better option on the wings. Playing an intense counter press and counter attacking game is something city have struggled to cope with in the past. If we can get the ball wide, isolate the full backs then I'll sure the likes of rashford, antony and garnacho will be able to do well

We’ve been in better form than City for a long time now and there’s enough video of City struggling to break down teams for long periods of games that ETH can analyse.
    I’m stupidly confident about this

I just hope we show up. I don't think I can take another no-show like the game at Etihad.

Think it'll be a close game that could go either way.

Not so sure about this one. Until we get a proven striker we are not ready to strike back. Just don't get thrashed.

However, miracles do happen. Let's hope one.
