We have Pogba and VdB who can play in there and are vastly better in possession than both McT/Fred. This is just our tactics, we have a pair who sit relatively deep and we don't keep possession in offensive areas versus any club with decent players. We usually draw these games so it kind of works if the aim is to not get beaten but it's not pretty.
