We have nothing going forward in the middle of the pitch. There will be huge divide between attack and defense, I see us getting overrun there.

I expect to see Mata and Sanchez dropping deep to get the ball because we're gonna go hoofball by default, and as Rashford will be busy helping out Young deal with Salah and TAA, Lukaku, as is the norm in the big games for us, will be isolated up front.

Will be very pleased with a draw, tbf.

Their midfield is Can Milner and Oxlade Chamberlain? I'm not too concerned about that

All they need is to release the ball to the forwards who can hurt united. They do not need to do anything fancy.

We need matic, mctominay on the top of their game to get ahead of their pressing and start the attacks for united, not too hopeful of we start hoofing.

Mata needs to keep an eye on Robertson defensively today. It's going to be an interesting matchup on that side considering Robertson loves to attack with pace and Mata isn't the most pacy.

Young against Salah worries me. But other than that I think we are good and will trouble them. I'm not even worried about McTominay and that says a lot about him for me - he's going to be a good player for us.

Not sure I understand the resentment towards young, he’s become a very dependable performer.

What’s concerning is how underwhelming the line up looks without pogba and Martial despite our investment.

Big games are hard to predict I’m going for a hard fought 1-0 with some controversy in there

I've decided to do the BBC's job for them for this game and I realized that it is easy to be a hack.

    Machester United 1 - Liverpool 3

Liverpool go second in swaggering display against traditional rivals.

    Match report

    By Fake BBC Reporter.

Manchester united crumbled against a devastating Liverpool attack who took the game to their hosts right from the first whistle and dished out a convincing 3-1 victory against their hosts, to leapfrog them into second position on the Premier League Table.

Liverpool produced a masterclass in pressing and in counter-attacking, and the took the lead in the 16th minute when Senegalese forward, Saido Mane, finished from a raking diagonal pass from James Milner.

Old Trafford has been a fortress for Manchester United this season, only previously losing one league game, against run-away leaders Manchester City, however, the home fans perhaps sensing what was to come, produced another tame show of support which seems to be the norm in the current generation of the clubs match-going fans.

Jose Mourinho has insisted this season that he plays a 3 man midfield as fans and pundits suggest, but this is not enough as this result shows that United are still placing square pegs in round holes where Ashely Young was asked to stand-in for a makeshift midfield that missed United's record signing, Paul Pogba.

The Red Devils might have been buoyed by recent comeback victories, but a different view might be that they should have been concerned at how easily breached their defense was in those games.

Mohammed Salah tormented this defense throughout his 75 minutes on the pitch and he continued his outstanding season by creating a simple tap-in for team mate, Jordan Henderson and then scoring one goal which would surely be among the contenders of the season, when he slalomed with silky footwork past a back tracking Chris Smalling.

Jurgen Klopp and his were greeted with a standing ovation from their traveling fans who are now convinced that they are making their way towards being a great English football team again.

For Manchester United, recent outlays on player recruitment shows that the club does not suffer from a willingness to commit resources, but rather from a recruitment strategy that has not taken into consideration the culture of the club to play flowing football while winning.

Unite'd next game is in the Champions League when they take on Sevilla at home. Anything other than victory will see them fall out of the Champions League, and even if they do get past Sevilla, does this current United team have the mettle to fight to regain the Glory of this club?

"We will be totally overrunned in midfield" ... by whom ... Can and Miller ... really?

Yep, if we have concerns about their line up, their midfield is not it. Add chamberlain to that mix too. Shouldn’t be getting overrun by that if we start the Neville brothers in the middle

Mata/Sanchez will be the link from midfield to attack - you said it yourself.

Not much of a Jose fan but struggling to see what else could've done different instead of perhaps starting Shaw instead of Young.

Likewise. If we lose today it won't have much to do with personnel.

Martial, Pogba, Herrera and even the likes of Jones and Fellaini (to start) are all good players for us that are all unavailable to start this match. It's like Liverpool being without two of Firmino, Mane and Salah.

A 4-2-3-1 aginst this lot seems suicidal to me, and no Lingard is an odd call as he's one of the few players with energy we have.

I can accept they have forwards who can hurt us.

However, we have quality up front too that can definitely trouble their defence. It hasn't been properly tested since the spurs game.

The crime would be if we don't put them under any pressure ourselves

No more than 3 or 4 Liverpool players would get a look in into my United side and still Liverpool is talked about here like it was Barca we are playing, what happend to our confidence?

This is giving me a similar feeling to when we beat Arsenal 3 - 2 under Van Gaal.

We had such a weak team due to injuries and Arsenal were 10 points ahead of us so came into the game at Old Trafford as favorites for the first time in years. We had Varela starting at full back and I believe Carrick in a back 5. A certain unknown Rashford got us 2 and we held out for a 3 - 2 result.

I know, it was Arsenal and not the likes of Salah but it's a similar feeling. Not many people backed us to get a result that day and we did.

    Anyway, 3 - 0 Liverpool.

I’ll be honest. That team doesn’t exactly fill me with confidence. Think we will get overrun again in the midfield.

Wouldn’t mind a draw at this point. A draw would still keep us second.

    Weak line up.
Our midfield looks lightweight and our bench is quite poor.
Dont think we will win but good luck to the lads today

Mata/Sanchez will be the link from midfield to attack - you said it yourself.

I meant our forwards will be drawn back because neither McTominay nor Matic are adept at getting the ball out. It's not really a link between your attack and midfield if your attack has to become your midfield.

A midfield of McTominay and Matic is a lot of things, but lightweight isn’t one of them

I can't cope with the build up today. I'm negative enough without listening to Souness.

Has he said anything over the top yet?

LOL is the entire pre-show going to be about how awesome Liverpool are?

"..And next, yeah there's another team playing them today"

Souness saying Van Dyke made all the difference to Liverpool because they were making daft mistakes before, despite Van Dyke making daft mistakes himself...

I'm very anxious now.. and it's fecking 30 minutes till kick-off, 120 beats per minute it is, fecking start already!

Never worried about playing against Liverpool when they were back-passing their way to European dominance and we were shite, so not going to start now, a mishmash of a team today, but we won't get beat.

Fully expect Alexis to run the show without Pogba getting under his feet, and Fellaini to come on and getting the reception he deserves.
