It actually takes some of the pressure off them that they can explain why the made a certain decision. Don't think they have to but they do it after controversial calls has been made.
Sounds like something the EPL needs. I really am fine with human mistakes with referees, but there are just some games and decisions where there needs to be open accountability. And if any given referee has to continually defend bad dcisions, well...that has to be some kind of a sign.
