Press in a 442. Don't allow their back line time to start play. Lets go for it from the off today.

Probably our best lineup given who is fit.
Im really pleased to see Lukaku dropped, not only will it do the team good it will do him good.
He will know now that he can't go 6/7 games without a goal and expect to play all the time at United.
Hopefully we adapt our play as its been said though, replacing him with Martial or Rashford and expecting to beat the press by launching the ball to them would be ridiculous.
Hopefully Fred does well too, he was supposedly highly rated at his last club so it's about time we see it here.

So many people have an anachronistic way of thinking about strikers. They've got to bully defenders, beat them in the air, etc, but when you see the other successful clubs with dynamic movement and free flowing goalscoring football none of the above applies. Is Aguero bullying defenders, giving them a "hard" time physically? Is he beating them in the air? Is Jesus? Is Kane's physicality more important than the fact that his movement, first touch, technique and ball control is what sets him apart? So, we say, Rashford can't replace Lukaku; Martial can't, because they can't play with their back to goal, but then all that does is assume that we have to play target men.

What is wrong with Martial out left, Rashford central and Mata right with Rashford's role being one of constant running wide, in channels and dragging defenders wide? Instead, we've just pigeonholed ourselves into the illusion that there's no other way to play a forward........despite the best teams in the world proving otherwise.
The striker doesn't necessarily have to be a target man who can bully defenders, but he does have to be able to hold the ball up and then move it on. Rashford's previous games up front by himself over the last couple of years have generally showcased a complete inability to get a hold of the ball, and that he was somewhat of a one-trick pony where all he could really do was look to use his pace to run in behind the defenders.

That doesn't mean he can't provide better. Some of those issues in the past have been partly due to the team still trying to play the same way we normally do, although Rashford himself certainly still had to take some blame. Hopefully this game will be better, both in his ability to actually provide a presence and the team as a whole playing to the different strengths of this line-up.

He can't really say that even because Lukaku has been shite as well. It'll just confirm finally once and for all that he doesn't have a clue how to get the best from anyone.
Oh he can say that. It wouldn't make any sense, I agree. But he can say that

I’m really surprised that he has dropped Lukaku. It needed to be done but didn’t think he would do it. See Matic is still on the pitch tho.
    442 diamond.

    442 diamond.

You could see him being dropped simply as Jose stood up for him in the lead up. If he had been pressed on Matic and said the same, I would of expected him to be dropped today. Jose just seems so reactionary these days.

Hmmmm. Have a feeling Fred and Matic will be like chalk and cheese in midfield.

I assume it's Mata who will be sacrificing his game to cover the right flank, and Rashford goes up top. Big game for him if so.

I stopped watching Jose press conferences a long time ago but if that’s the case I’m going to try and infiltrate a press conference and press him on Matic.

Who would you have on the left and right? Pogba and Mata? 4-4-2 would be nice.

Yeah, I think that would be a good side, although they won't be the type to run up against defenders they'd deliver more technical precision. Suited to the runs that Rashford and Martial have to make.

Everton with Walcott, Bernard and Richarlison. Lots of pace there.

I want to see Matic play like a number 6 today. Make sure his defensive positioning is good and keep it simple if necessary. He has Pogba and Fred either side of him to use the ball.

Honestly believe if we can score 3 or 4 today without Rom it could be a crucial moment for us this season

Bernard is crap, I’d be much more nervous if he started lookman.

Have to say though, at least the team is positive. Actually have a little bit of hope! Come on the Fredge!

What's the betting it isn't a front 2, and we'll be lumping long balls and crosses to Rashford as a CF for 60mins until Lukaku comes on and we continue the same approach?

Problem is that Rashford is just as hopeless as a number 9. Jose to get the sack if we lose this today?

He isnt though, his time in the center under Van Gaal showed that. Hes just not a Jose type striker.
The fact that he has dropped Lukaku I will give him a few more games to see how the team can progress without him as he has been a massive hindrance to our attack imo

Needs time off the weight bench. He looks so jacked up these days, you wonder if he's carry to much muscle.
Agree with this. He looks like a wrestler not a footballer.

I want slim, fast forwards up front not big lumps. Glad he’s on the bench.

Have my sound on mute. Don't want to hear the crap they're talking in the studio. Shame Gary is commentating, fed up of his mouth as well.

How does Jermaine Jenas have a job as a football pundit? Hasn't a clue!

Lukaku will be back in the starting 11 in the next game, once Rashford has reminded us all how useless he is as the lone striker

    It needs to be 4-2-2-2.
Mata is pointless on the wing in 4-3-3 and it'll be pointless to use either Rashford/Martial as lone strikers.

Jose seemed to indicate it’ll just be Rashford through the middle but think he has missed a trick here should have gone with Martial and Rashford as a 2.

Special guests in the directors' box
The Wild Boars players have taken their seats in the Old Trafford directors’ box and plenty of supporters are taking photographs of them. They will have got to rub shoulders with United legends and board members in the directors’ lounge in the run up to kick-off. The surroundings in that lounge are rather modest for a club of United’s statue and the history of a stadium like Old Trafford.

United have abandoned their attacking drill warm-ups in recent weeks and opted for shooting practice, so there may be no further indication as to whether it is Rashford or Martial up top until kick-off.

Hope to see Pogba and Mata pull the strings for Martial and Rashford. Let's see the type of movement Martial and Rashford provide.
