Because it's a long ball. The margin for error is obviously greater. It's being played from back to front, from a position of space. Whereas Carrick's passes take more precision (in my opinion, anyway), and aren't from (or into) nearly as much space.What do you mean long ball and why are you insisting on identifying it as so?

Carrick DID play in defense a fair bit and wasnt able to play those passes though.
