Some short memories regarding McTominay. It wasn't long ago, starting under Mourinho and into Ole's reign that McTominay was showing up versus top six teams with big disciplined performances. Largely Redcafe was praising him for being the only midfielder actually showing up!

It could be as simple as AWB late back to training and a bit out of rhythm, Greenwood has gone through the wringer a bit and could need a bit more of a break and Matic maybe some kind of knock. Ole will be asked about the team selection later, I'd be very surprised if he's purposely picking a weakened side on the opening day.

Or maybe people are slating the decision to play the player, and even worse in a position where they do not excel. I mean so unreasonable to complain about James playing today at RW isn't it. Not like he is usually poor there...

OGS making selection decisions based on pre-season fitness and form. What the hell is he playing at? He should be looking at their percentage ratings on FIFA, and checking on the Caf.

McTominay did very well in games where we don't have much possession. In games like this I would much rather start Matic or Fred. He also doesn't seem to play well with Pogba. Regardless he is probably the most fit out of all the options and thats probably why he is starting.
