Even if it weren't precautionary, Martial wouldn't start ahead of Rashford.

For every one great game Martial has earns him one game as a starter, max. Rashford can play a couple of mediocre games and keep Martial benched unless Martial pulls another blinder of a game again.

It's clear that Jose has his favourite and I suspect that Rashford's defensive contributions are a large part of why he gets nod in a 50/50 choice.

No Herrera and Martial is baffling.

I like this lineup, but was hoping to see Martial (maybe left out for precaution reasons).

Mourinho wants a midfield of Matic-Fellaini as long as Pogba is out, and he will continue to go with it. So far he got 2 wins and 5-0 in goals, so he doesn't want to change things (even though both games were tough).

For the people who seemingly aren’t bothered about Martial not starting, do you not care that Mourinho is possibly going to force one of the best young players in world football out the door with his continued shocking treatment of him? Knock or not he clearly prefers Rashford which is baffling beyond belief.

Bailly probably getting a rest ahead of time. As he wont get one for his national team.

Martial, I have given up hope on Jose starting him regularly. I just enjoy the minutes he gets when he does play.

4 players off what our strongest team available is... Bailly probably being rested. Wouldve hoped herrera started in midfield, fellaini has done well but we play much better as a team with herrera. Martial obviously should be walking in, question is if hes on the bench because rashford is starting or because of his slight knock. He should be starting every game though. Blind also probably over young though young has done well.

After the Russian show Martial put up, he should be starting today.

Statements like this are ridiculous as it suggests no one can question Mourinho's team selection. If we 'just support the team' without questioning anything there wouldn't be much point in forums like the one we are currently posting on.
True, but we can question statements that question statements that you just commented about on a forum. Do you get it?

Martial went off in Russia with a knock. I'm refusing to get worked up over his place on the bench. I'm just relieved he was fit to feature.

    The whinge fests on here!

First the stuff over Lukaku maybe missing today.

Now Martial. He did half limp off on Wednesday, so it's not a disaster rotating him!
Look at the goals he and Rashford have scored off the bench this season! They are huge assets to bring on

No Herrera :( I think Jose may be protecting him for the better sides given the Pog injury.
Don't we have an international break after this? Herrera was brilliant in the last match but an 'injured' Fellaini gets the nod over him. I find it baffling. I just hope we win.

Why is Fellaini starting next to Matic against Palace at home, especially after Herrera's stellar performance against CSKA? It's baffling.

Fellaini is a decent player, but he's not good enough in a midfield two and only slows down our overall play.

As for Martial - it's not really surprising. Seems like even if he scores a fecking hattrick in a 15 minute cameo he still won't start in the league.

I'd have thought Herrera would get a start. I can understand Martial not starting, he was amazing last game but, he doesn't need to play each game and has to be managed. I reckon he'll start the next game and I don't see his good form going away.

Can anyone figure out Blind and Darmian on the bench instead of Lindelöf?

Think he has been quite fine even without lack of goals/assists.
He's been okay at best, which frankly isn't good enough, he has the quality there's no doubt about that so he should have to earn his place back like anyone else would.

Everybody keeps talking about how Rashford is starting over Martial but for me the real problem is Mata. He's getting massively outperformed by both the younger players and should be the one missing out.

It is baffling when Martinez will probably pick him and Lukaku for Belgium when they will finish top anyway and Lukaku could definitely do with a rest. Rashford is going to need a good game as well after the way Martial has been performing. Ander will probably come on for Juan after 60 minutes.

My guess is Mourinho wants to end the game pretty early with a Smalling or Fellaini header, and then just stroll along.
