No he doesn't. He's shite on every level, everyone knows it.

What he has over the others, which is of no use whatsoever as his overall play is so bad now, is experience.

I hope that Ole is wise enough to resist using Matic and Mata as starters. Pereira shouldn’t even be on the bench.

What I like because we must control the midfield
    ————McTominay———
    Fred ———————Pogba
    ————--Lingard————
    Rashford————Martial

    Ole’s selection

    —-McTominay— Pogba—-
    James—-Lingard—- Rashford
    —————Martial—————

A very good anchor for the opposition to play around..

In all seriousness, hearing the arguments that Matic somehow provides any sort of protection with or without the ball better than our other midfielders, reminds me of the many 'Lukaku as target man' arguments while he had a 5 m control radius and would get shoved off the ball like a boy playing against men. I really hope he's not in the starting 11, if anything his presence unbalances the whole team as the rest of the midfield and defence spend time worrying and covering for the spaces that Matic cannot physically cover.

Matic remaining a fixture in the first team only hinders Fred/Periera/Gomes's progression and it's not he offers more than any of those 3. Strange decision to pick him if that is indeed the case.

Can’t see anything in the line up rules, but I’m unable to submit my prediction - have I missed something obvious over the summer?

Apologies in advance if I have
You're probably too late. You have to get your prediction in more than 2 hours before the match starts.

@duffer I know you're shaking in your boots

    I'm not at all confident.

We've lost our best player, have a rookie in charge, have an fecking American in the first team and also had a transfer ban, you lot have spunked over a 100 million and now have the most expensive defender in the history of the game.

I'd bite your hand off for a draw!

If I see Mata out wide and Matic anywhere near the ground I think I might cry.

    Just as worried.
But definitely don't want a draw though.

Both teams would really benefit massively from such a win. Unless it's a scrappy 1 nil win then maybe not massive.

In my ideal world we would play either Greenwood or Chong on the right for every single game this season.
What is more likely though is that there might be a game this season where we play both but with NEITHER OF THEM ON THE RIGHT.

I feel you, the fecking American will be a good player for you I think, just not today

Opted out of going to the WI India match today because I’m so excited that football and United is back. Can’t fecking wait

Chelsea are always missing players prior to kick-off so expect Kante to play.

I see a 2-0 win in the cards.

    De Gea
    Wan-Bissaka Lindelof Maguire Shaw
    Matic McTominay
    James Pogba Rashford
    Martial

If Chelsea's attack is unbalanced like ours, it evens out and we're both handicapped.
    Hazard is gone.
Kante being injured makes them much weaker defensively.
    3 reasons to be optimistic

It’s Chelsea, so anything can happen as our record isn’t the best vs them, but we really should be beating them today. I think Chelsea definitely come into this with less pressure to win, than us so we’ll get an early glimpse of our mentality going into this season. Go out and stuff them 2 or 3-0.

A win here would be a fantastic start to the season and help to build confidence in the side to drive forward.

Really want to see Pogba run the game and Martial/Rashford to get on the score sheet so they get off to the races, as we’ll need plenty of goals from them throughout.

I’ve always seen them as a bit of a bogey team for us but was surprised to learn that we’ve not lost to them at home since Fergie retired. Quietly optimistic about today.

I don't understand how people can put Mata in there. It's obvious it's going to be fast-paced and lots of pressing from both sides, and Mata would completely ruin it all by himself. Ole knows that he needs runners in this game, and he'd probably prefer to play Mata against parked buses. At least I hope so.

If he's in the number 10 role, it's because all that running around doesn't mean much if there isn't a player who can pass it into space or turn the movement into results. He has a wonderful touch and is still intelligent and dangerous, AS LONG AS HE ISN'T PLAYED ON THE RIGHT WING!!!

When you think you should get all the answers it usually ends with even more questions. Wouldn't surprise me if it gets that way today, I think we win by 1: 0 on a fast counter.

    I want:

    De Gea
    AWB Lindelof Maguire Shaw
    McTominay Pogba
    Greenwood Gomes Rashford
    Martial

    I expect:

    De Gea
    AWB Lindelof Maguire Shaw
    McTominay Pogba
    Lingard Mata Rashford
    Martial

    I have

    De Gear

    AWB Maguire Lindelöf Shaw
    McTomincay Pogba Pereira
    Greenwood Rashford Martial

as my starters. Hopefully Ole drank the same as I did at the time of choosing.

I'm sure Kante is always a doubt against us but always plays.

Surprised at the score predictions considering the doom on here, nearly 75% think we'll win. I'm expecting a draw.

I THINK Solskjaer will go with

    Martial
    Rashford - Lingard - James
    Pogba - McTominay
    Shaw - Maguire - Lindelof - Wan-Bissaka
    De Gea

I don't WANT that at all.
