    I’d like to see,

    De Gea
    Wan Bissaka Maguire Lindelof Shaw
    McTominey Matic
    Pogba
    James Martial Rashford

Throughout the season I’d like to see a stable first 11, enough of changing the team every week.

    DDG

    AWB --------- LINDELÖF -------- MAGUIRE --------- SHAW

    MCTOMINAY ------------ FRED

    LINGARD ------------ POGBA ----------- RASHFORD

    MARTIAL

Greenwood, James and Matic to come one.

Interesting. No McSauce and no full backs.

I forgot McTonimay (I'd make a lousy manager if I forget players in my squad)! I haven't seen any of the pre-season games but I've read he had a good pre-season.

    So, my midfield would by:

    McTonimay - Pogba - Martic

I would imagine Pogba would play on the right side of the field because that's what he did last year, but the thought of him playing in the middle and spraying the ball all around would be a vision. The only way I could accommodate a third man in midfield would be to have three very good central defenders (which we have). I still think we will go with the traditional four in defence though.

4312: de Gea, Wan-Bissaka, Smalling, Lindelöf, Shaw; McTominay, Matić, Pogba; Lingard, Martial, Rashford.

I don't think Maguire will start given he hasn't played with the team at all but he'll likely come on early 2nd half. I don't think Solskjær is going to throw the youngsters to the wolves this early. Hopefully Greenwood will make a cameo late in the game.

I'm going for it. We're going to destroy Chelsea.

    My tuppenny's worth:

    DDG

    Lindelof - Maguire - Jones

    Fred - Pogba - Matic

    James - Lingard - Rashford

    Martial
It's the season now. No time for youthful experiments. I think youth will be used sparingly and when we are in a secure position.

I've gone for three in midfield because two in midfield is just not strong enough. Whether we choose Matic/Pogba or McTonminay/Pogba or even Fred/Pogba.

James and Rashford as emergency wing backs? Interesting.

Maguire joined around a week ago and has a full pre season in him. He'd have likely played a few training matches among the first XI by now.

So basically, spend £50m on a fullback to just play with no fullbacks at all?

I just don't think a few sessions of training matches is enough to form a partnership with Lindelöf just yet. It'll take some time. I'd personally trust Lindelöf and Smallings partnership over Lindelöf and Maguire at the moment. I'll probably be proven wrong and Maguire will start. We'll see.

It's one game. Different players are used for different games all the time.

Using your logic however, if money is the factor surely we should be using Sanchez in every game, shouldn't we?

No but we should not play without fullbacks/wingbacks.

Really? For some reason, I have the feeling Ole is a consistent guy that is very pragmatic. If there are good reasons to play with a pure 6, we would obviously do it but Ole tries to be consistent and coherent in this way of playing, so I don't think that will change... we should expect a combo of Pogba and McT and someone in front of them, it could be Mata, Lingard or Gomes.

Pogba either can't play deep or is extremely unhappy playing there.

Here's a thought - does anyone think Axel could play CDM? Is he capable of doing it? As he could be our Matic successor if that's the case, it'd be a great solution.

The guaranteed players as I see it are De Gea, Wan-Bissaka, Maguire, Lindelof, Shaw, Pogba, Rashford, Martial.

The rest of it is down to whether we play a 4-2-3-1 or a 4-3-3 and then individual selections like Lingard/Mata/James and Matic/McTominay.

You can bet your bottom dollar that McTominay will 100% be a starter next to Pogba.

There’s a thread on it where people quite rightly laughed at the OP.

Centre Back and Defensive Midfield are worlds apart despite a few seemingly conclusive similarities.

We're one bad result away from a full blown meltdown after the last 6 years and also a disappointing end to the transfer window. We're the only club in the top half of the table where there is fan unrest and a bad atmosphere hanging over the club. :(

I pray we win tomorrow or my word all hell is going to break loose.

I hope so, I loved Matic in his prime but he's a fair bit past that now.

McTominay would be my preferred midfield partner for Pogba.

No but we should not play without fullbacks/wingbacks.

If the last two seasons have proved one thing then that is our midfield is too weak no matter what combination of two midfielders we played. Not to have strengthened this area of the squad was a big mistake by the management/board.

Both Mourinho and Ole used a three-man midfield last season at times. We either loose a man in defence or a man in attack but I don't think Ole would weaken the attack as three points are crucial.

With a strong team like Chelsea I think we should have an extra man in midfield just for THIS game.

So did I mate. He was excellent in his first couple of games for us when we signed him from Chelsea two years ago. Unfortunately looks like he is past it now.

I bloody hope not, we'd get annihilated with 3331. We're not Holland from the 70s.

You don't want youthful experiments but you want to drop both FBs (including the one we've just paid £50m for and looks very good in pre season) and try a formation we've never played and haven't got the players to suit?

We're playing 4231 or something very close to it.

    (McTominay)

Just bought a new tv so this better be decent. Any fat rolls and I will spot them.

Chelsea will never be more beatable than they are tomorrow.

If Ole is smart, he will get the crowd up by playing Greenwood.

Usually opening day fixtures are a bit dull and predictable, tomorrow feels very very different like it could either way, either an extreme high or low, nothing in the middle.

Yes unfortunately. I hope there is a little more patience but unfortunately you are probably quite right.

This reads like a wwe script....... BAW GAWD.

    De Gea
    AWB Lindelof Maguire Shaw
    Matic
    McT Pogba
    Lingard Martial Rashford

How are everyone putting Matic in their sides? Do any of you watch him??
Yep but no one sees us playing youngsters in this game from the start. We have a criminal midfield, and the only other option is Fred or Garner. Frankly I’d want the best back 5 with:

    Mctominay-Pogba
    Gomes

    James-Rashford-Martial

But we are going to field:

    Mctominay-Matic
    Pogba

    Lingard-Rashford-Martial

Are they putting him in because they'd pick him or because they think Ole will though? Come on he's definitely going to play.
Fully agree everyone knows it’s a bad idea, but ole choices are Fred or garner.

A must win 6-0 if we want to keep our title challenge alive.
