    --------DDG--Lindegaard------------
    Jones-Smalling-Rojo-Blackett-Shaw
    --------Carrick-Blind-Fellaini--------
    ---------------------------------------
    ---------------------------------------
    ---------------Falcao----------------

What about this formation? 4-5-1 with Di Maria, Blind and Herrera as the midfield 3. Young on the right wing to mark Hazard. Januzaj on the left. Falcao lone striker. If we play this formation, we don't need to play Mata and Rvp. This formation is a little defensive but we'll be able to contain Chelsea's threat and hit them on the counter.

Carrick needs a reserve game to tune up and fast. Get him and Blind in with Herrera in front of them and pray Di Maria is fit.

    Yep. This.

I agree this has good balance. My only slight concern is Blind and Carrick being a little too slow in there to press mainly Fabregas which we need and Jones also in big games might be too rash to be central defender and I might put him in midfield next to Blind or Carrick. Actually having Carrick as central defender and Jones in midfield might be better structure to be fair. Carrick could be a leader at the back although of course sending him back directly into this game would be a risk. Still with out shocking organization it can hardly get much worse.

Crazy to think lots of people are thinking Mata and RVP should and will be dropped for this game with Rooney already out. Mata i think has to play he can link the midfield and attack, RVP though needs replacing with Falcao. Maybe play Valencia instead of januzaj to offer a bit more physicality and balance aswell.

I'm off to the garden centre. And I don't even do gardening.

Just get off work in time for this. Maybe I should see if there's any overtime available.

I jest, can't wait for it.

This game will be too soon for Carrick to start IMO and we don't know if Valencia is going to be fit, so I am not sure what set-up LvG will use. I can see Smalling maybe coming in for Jones but other than that the back 4 will remain the same and Di Maria and Blind will undoubtedly start.

I really hope LvG plays Falcao up top and moves RvP to the bench, he had his shot starting in the loan striker role tonight and didn't do enough.

Fellaini lacks the discipline to play deeper in midfield but I could see him in Mata's role and Herrera on the right side of midfield in place of Januzaj.

That still leaves us with no partner for Blind that seems to be the right fit as far as staying deep and playing disciplined, so who knows, maybe LvG will have no option but to throw Carrick into the fire straight away.

We will get smashed, absolutely hammered.

Struggling vs the likes of Burnley, WBA and so on.

    I fear the worst.

This match is going to be so boring, I think. Mourinho against bigger team away from Stamford Bridge means no areas to play in. Like last seasons 0-0. They will close the areas between their midfield and defence. But they will alos be able to punish the tiniest mistake.

If I was van Gaal, I would line up like this.

    de Gea
    Rafael - McNair - Rojo - Blackett
Carrick - Blind - di Maria
    Herrera - Falcao - Shaw

I simply don't trust Shaw's defending skills yet and one mistake against Chelsea and they punish you. I would rather have Blackett as left back and use is defensive mindset to begin with rather than Shaw who doesn't always seems to be aware what happens around him. Offensively I can't complain about Luke Shaw. But his defensively skills has to improve a lot, but okay, he is very young.

McNair over Jones. Jesus Christ, he was awful against WBA. Rushing too much and played just bad. Awful on the ball and didn't give any composure to the team when we had the ball and tried to start some attacks. And against a team like Chelsea, it will be very hard to lose the ball at the wrong places. It's a bet, I know, but McNair is so calm on the ball.

I want a compact midfield and di Maria back where he belongs so he can run with ball from a deep position.

Luke Shaw has a good pace and is good IMO at attacking. Therefore I would place him as a winger. Also he does have a good stamina, so he can chase down Ivanovic when he's attacking. That would mean that di Maria doesn't have to use his energy on defending that much.

Herrera is a some sort of AMRC. Not as a winger, but much more centrally but be able to support Falcao with his stamina and running. Rafael can give him the depth in attacking.

After 60-65 minutes, we can put Fellaini and Januzaj in to be more offensive.

To those who haven't understand my tactic 100 percent, I would line up like this on the pitch.

We can win, but I'm unsure we will. Mourinho will set his side up to not lose, we already know this, it'll more than likely be a dull draw.

    Would like to see...
    de Gea
    Rafael Jones Rojo Shaw
    Carrick Blind
    di Maria Herrera Mata
    Falcao

I'd like to see Fellaini pushing forward given how often Di Maria plays the early crosses. He looked pretty good attacking the ball in the box today.

    DeGea
    Rafael Jones Rojo Shaw
    Blind
    Herrera DiMaria
    Fellaini
    RvP Falcao

Hopefully a match like this is the big occasion some of our Gaalacticos need to whip them into shape quickly.

Stupid Rooney, this is precisely the type of game we need him for.

    De Gea
    Rafael--Jones--Rojo--Shaw
    Blind
    Herrera--Di Maria
    Januzaj
    van Persie--Falcao

We need luck in this one.

They'll be too much for us. Their physicality and energy are so elegantly balanced by Fabregas and Hazards flair. We'd be very lucky to win but realistically, a draw would be great.

I honestly think this is our best option, ample protection and ability to hit them on pace with the counter. Hopefully Luis is not yet adjusted to the game and we can catch him off guard.

What are Chelsea likely to play ?

    -------------------Courtois
    --Ivanovic------Terry-----Cahill-----Luis
    -------------Matic------Fabregas
    --Schurrle--------Oscar-----------Willian--
    ------------------Remy

Why would Chelsea leave out their best player?

A tactical masterclass, 2-0 United. Though don't feel so confident typing the first part.

As much as I've been negative of this season, I actually have some weird, irrational, inexplicable feeling that United will get something from this game and even if it's a loss, it'll be a narrow one goal loss and the team will put a good account of themselves.

We need to start with Falcao. The guy is absolutely warmed up right now. He will put in any chance that comes to him and in a game like this that's all we need.

Yeah, I think so. Can always change it up after an hour if we want to go for 3 points or are down and need to get back in it.

Why is Nani on loan again? He could play in that Valencia role without being horrible defensively and actually be a threat going forward.

The other option is to play a bog-standard 4-4-2 and sit very deep, with RVP and Falcao up front, Di Maria on the left, Herrera/Valencia on the right and Blind and Carrick/Fletcher/Herrera at CM, and let Matic dictate the game but hope it doesn't kill you defensively and you get the threat of longer passes to RVP and Falcao to cause problems up front.

Or just play 4-4-1-1, drop RVP and play Valencia at RM and tell Herrera to bother Matic all game. That might work better.

While everybody here seems to be going pee pee in their pants, do you not think they might be a little intimidated by our attack too?

Falcao absolutley dry raped them the last time he played them, and RVP has a great record against them too

They'll score at least 4.Lucky for us they have midweek CL otherwise it could be a cricket score.

Jose will have them sit back and counter, score a goal and defend deep for the rest of the game. He plays intelligently these away matches. Our attack is only impressive on paper, they're intimated by us then something is wrong with them.
