I've never used the ref as an excuse before, but this time it's genuinely part of the reason we stood no chance. Don't get me wrong, we weren't good enough either, but I think the clearly awful refereeing made it a very uneven game.

It does cost you. Every time you beat someone he gives a foul but no card. If he books they can’t stop you again. It prevents you getting at the opposition. It’s cynical and refs are supposed to punish it. By not punishing it you are affecting the game and the outcome to the detriment of sporting integrity.

Most games the referee gets a couple calls wrong and its annoying but i rarely affects the outcome entirely.

This match, and especially the second half he lost the game completely, allowed Atletico to play theater, didnt give yellow cards... and what the hell was that about not letting us take a fast free kick in the end? I cant stand Atletico at the best of days, but watch them kick and punch players without seeing as much as a sideways glance from the incompetence with a whistle is just too much.
