If Wednesday night comes round and I’m watching a game where the opposition are looking faster, technically superior with precise, quick passing, charging into space and opening us up time after time, whilst we’re slow in our build up, inaccurate in our passing and miscontrolling the ball, looking lethargic and frustrated - I’m going to scream.

I'd watch with some tea and honey then.

High press will panic us again. Let’s hope that playing at OT will panic Atalanta and we can get some rythem to score a few. Start Ronaldo, Greenwood and Sancho and bring on Cavani and Rashford for the last twenty minutes. Drop Maguire.

why would it? Pretty sure Atalanta will be used to way worse in Italy.

Old Trafford isn’t the fortress it once was, more like a circus tent nowadays.

    So just the usual then.

Unfortunately, I cannot see us winning this game. I watched the second half of the Atalanta game against Young Boys and I cannot see this team withstanding even 1/2 of the pressure they put on Young Boys.

I can see us going with a 4-2-3-1 and hoping for a couple on the break. McFred to start.
If Atalanta have enough fuel in them to press us consistently, we are in a big trouble. Dropping points against the Italians and losing to Pool will put Ole right on a super hot frying pan. The end is near it seems.

    4-4-2 . That's how I'd go it's not going to happen, though.
    DDG. AWB, Lidelof, Maguire, Shaw.
    Bruno..Mctom..Fred.. Pogba..
Ronny...Cavani. .. I'd even maybe put Bruno and Fred in CM and put Sancho on the left and Rashford on the right. Maguire has to push up Lindelof can cover behind when in possession , i can see that system working even better with Varane.

Atalanta are unbeaten in away games this season. P5 W3 D2 F11 A6

The two draws was against inter and Villarreal both 2-2 results.

They won their 3 away group games in last season CL against Ajax, Liverpool, Midtjylland without conceding a goal and Liverpool had no shots on target in their 2-0 defeat in Anfield.

Both sides in 6th place on 14 points in the league.
    Interesting...

    Sixy football

Becoming a bit more excited about this game the closer it's getting.
One thing just dawned on me, prob said by others but Pool get an extra days rest ahead of our game, when it's against you, every single little thing seems to pile up to make it that bit harder.

    Don't they always?

Not really sure what Ole will do with ti game, I'll just guess at this.

This will be the team most likely.

He'll make some pointless subs around the 80 minute mark like bringing on Matic for McTominay or Lingard for Greenwood when we need a goal.

Losing this game is unthinkable. Ole will revert to his tried and tested that has got him out the shit before. Loads of hate regarding McFred but Ole knows his biggest results against the best teams generally, they have played.

Atalanta is such an underrated side with crazy attacking talent. This could be really bad for Ole.

Prepare for it then. Atalanta are one of the best teams to watch in Serie A and have been for past few seasons. Whereas United are moments FC.

We will win this game 2-1 and everything will be rosy in the Utd camp. Then we will lose to liverpool.

I'd personally love to see this team:

    _____________DDG
    ____Lindelof Maguire Shaw
    Dalot_________________Telles
    ________Fred_____Pogba_____
    ____________
    Bruno__________
    ______
    Ronaldo___Cavani____

    It’s not difficult
    Drop Maguire for Bailly
    Drop Pogba or Bruno
Play Fred and one of the Ms
Play Cavani up front and Ronaldo left, Greenwood or Sancho right

    Prepare to sub - Pogba/Bruno/Matic/Sancho/Greenwood/Cavani/Ronaldo

    Rashford should start on bench
With a couple more days training added to the match he just played, Maguire should be closer to being up to speed.

Is Cavani ready to play? If so I agree with you. Give him and Ronaldo 60mins and bring on some younger legs for the last half hour.

Drop the "non droppables" and have the attacking four press the opposition.

I would set up something like this below. Giving Sancho, Dalot and Donny strict instructions to press the ball in a pack, and Rashford, Matic and Shaw the same on their side. Bruno and Cavani press from the front and we can start looking like a team again.

With the hunger of Rashford, Sancho's deliveries into the box, Donny and Bruno breaking the lines with forward passes, I reckon we can get our noses a couple of goals up. Once this is established, stick Ronaldo on for his glory goal to cap the game off.

Dalot's lack of defensive qualities is a concern, but we need them to be worried about us, and not the other way around.

    -----------------------------------------DDG----------------------------------------
    -------Dalot-----------Lindelof--------------Maguire------------Shaw----
    ---Sancho-----Donny----Bruno----Matic---------Rashford--
    ----------------------------------------Cavani------

I expect to see Uniteds strongest possible team out for the Forseeable future whilst Ole's job is under threat. Only problem is nobody knows what that team is.

Atalanta are coming off the back of a 4-1 away win, whereas we're coming off the back of a 4-2 away defeat!

I think we'll scrape a 2-1 win, personally. But I can see the performance being dull, and Atalanta will definitely have chances.

i would like to see Cavani, Lingard start, with Fernandes, I think they can press aggressively, perhaps Rashford on the left for his runs in behind.

Maguire shouldn't start so Bailly should replace him in the back 4.

probably a McFred in the middle is Ole's go to pairing but i hope its Fred & VdB

I don't know how we'll line up but imagine it's something like:

    De Gea
    AWB - Lindelof - Maguire - Shaw
    McFred
    Greenwood - Bruno - Rashford
    Ronaldo

    1-2 to Atalanta.

I'd rest a few for Sunday (Greenwood/Ronaldo/Bruno) and play a 4-3-3. Got to try something different...

    De Gea

    Dalot Bailly Lindelof Shaw

    VdB Fred Pogba

    Sancho Cavani Rashford

Anything short of a win here and we're almost certainly into the Europa league. If we can even finish 3rd.

Second is still salvageable I think, but feck me we’d be cutting it fine. A loss tomorrow might lead player unrest into overdrive. Ronaldo and Champions League Varane playing in the Europa League? Imagine.

Does 4th drop into the Europa conference league?

Solskjaer’s problem now is he’s damned if he does, damned if he doesn’t. If he rests his 3 top scorers this season and you don’t win he’s a bit fecked with the criticism he’ll get and with there being so much money on the line in progressing in the CL. If he keeps his strongest (on paper) line up he risks looking like the ‘something’s got to change’ comment was just empty words.

    Would like to see this,

    De Gea
    AWB Lindelof Maguire Shaw
    Matic
    McTominay Bruno
    Sancho Cavani Rashford

I think we’ll need legs and this team is probably the hardest working team we have (minus Fred but he’s been shocking).

Going to be a tough game, we'll do well to beat them.

Villarreal should've beat us 3-1- 4-1, they had chances galore and played right through but just couldn't find the right strikes. Any more freedom given like that and it will be a bad night.

If McTom is playing then coaching team have to recognize he's not in the games these days and needs to very much much involved, if it's not working on the pitch then Ole has get up and start telling players where they should be.

I'm actually really looking forward to this as I think Ole will try something different and I want to see what he's got up his sleeve. If we go McFred-3-Ronaldo again I'll be disappointed.

Ole will almost certainly set us up negatively for this. McFred are nailed on to start. If he still had Dan James he’d probably start him too. It’s usually what happens when Ole gets a pasting in a game - he sets up the next game with the sole purpose of not losing instead of scoring goals and dominating possession.

Can see this being a draw.
