Man, so depressing when your manager doesn't have the balls to go head head against Atalanta.

With McFred we will just defend and hope someone does a worldie.

At least we will defend. Our defense is absolutely atrocious. If you lean into the TV close enough, you can smell when the other team is about to score from a set piece on us... you sure as hell can feel it coming.

Was hoping Cavani would get a runout as we look like a more fluent outfit with him leading the line. Less so with Ronnie.
I don’t think that’s true just here’s he has barely played this season.
I’m really interested in how Ronaldo links up with Rashford. Even Cavani fell away when Rashford wasn’t there

I think the problem with this is that we've won most the big game wins with McFred. I don't know why Redcafe never considers that?

Not last season. Two seasons ago we did. Last season we really struggled with them

I don't know why Redcafe never considers that?

It was a bit of a weird comment and hard to read what he actually meant but I thought he felt we’d been unlucky in recent weeks and at some point that luck would change and we’d get the rub of the green.

I must have interpreted it differently, I thought he meant he'd change something major about the way we play, and it was disappointing to see he didn't trust himself/his players enough to break away from the safety option.

McFred worked when we had a counter attacking side without Ronaldo up top, but not anymore.

McFred again despite being woefully out of form. Time for VDB to hand in a transfer request.

I think the problem with this is that we've won most the big game wins with McFred. I don't know why Redcafe never considers that?

We also drew and lost a lot of the 'small' games with McFred, and some of those 'wins' we had were those comeback wins we pulled out the bag - but people conveniently forget this also, in defence of McFred.
If every midfield pairing we have fails, yet those same midfield players play well in their international teams - the problem isn't with the players is it.

McFred have always been our first choice midfield so no surprise there.

In terms of "something has to give" the only major possibility you could gather from that line-up is that he might have given up on playing Pogba the way we have been but we'll have to see more games before we know if that holds true. Otherwise it's a team you would have expected him to pick without those "something has to give" comments, with Pogba ready to come back in at LW against Liverpool.

Failed utterly? Really? Compared with every other central midfield partnership we’ve tried they’ve been by far the best pairing.
Donny's game against West Ham and Young Boys was miles better than anything McFred has produced this season. He gets no gametime. It's become clear that the 4-2-3-1 is simply not working. So what does Ole do? Persist with it. Ronaldo is still stuck up top for a poacher role that he never once played in his life. My problem is that Ole seems deathly afraid of trying something new because he is afraid that it will be the end of him. But it is precisely this type of fear that makes him a mediocre manager. In this he is eerily similar to Moyes who'd do the exact same thing Ole does. They're both cut from the same cloth "make it difficult for the other team to beat us" types.

Haha this is the eleven I said Ole would pick vs Liverpool.

Picking it vs Atalanta shows just how desperate things are tbh. Because Ole will be picking them all again on the weekend bar injuries.

You could write that quote 40+ times when mentioning McFred though, at best we’ll get a mediocre performance they‘re the worst midfield pair regularly starting for United in 25 years.

Imagine chasing a right winger for 2 years and finally getting him for 70+ million then not getting the best out of him.
100% mate, but our winning stats with McFred are way better than with any other combination which shows what we could actually do if we had a competent CDM in there.

Meh. Glad to see Rashford back. But I don't really see Ronaldo, Greenwood , Rashford and Bruno all working together... its 4 individuals who all love forcing the issue and playing a killer ball or taking a shot at first chance. Nobody who is a creator first and foremost. Hope it works out though.

Whether we like it or not, McFred is still the best midfield partnership we've got currently.
No it's not, but we're never going to find it out because VDB won't get a shot

Makes me laugh how people are moaning that McFred are starting. Ole clearly has no clue how to utilise Pogba or VDB and our midfield has been a total shambles. He’s going back to what he knows and is hoping they can find some form

This is absolutely our best 11 on current form. If we can't win with this team, the problem lies with the coaching

How is McTominay part of our best or in-form 11 when he's been piss poor and Pogba has been our best playmaker thus far with 7 assists? Is it because Pogba 'cant play in midfield'?

So when can we try only playing one of McTominay or Fred in a game for a run of matches?

Because I checked our results this season and no Midfield is clearly better than the other.

We have 1 Clean sheet in 19 the majority being with McFred.

We lost against Villa at home with Scott and Fred starting so no it's hardly the solution regardless of what is gonna happen tonight.

Sure, except it was still 1-1 when Scott went off the pitch.

I think the problem with this is that we've won most the big game wins with McFred. I don't know why Redcafe never considers that?

You're correct, but in those games we had Bruno pseudo leading the line while Rashford/Martial/Greenwood/Cavani would drift wide with pace and make runs on the counter.

With Ronaldo, it's different because he presses less, stays close to goal and is not as fast as he used to be. Our play has to go through him. And he also takes up positions that Bruno used to run into. Or worse, still runs into.

Good team. No problem with leaving Pogba out. Given we may only have a few more months left of him, may as well try something different

I don’t think that’s true just here’s he has barely played this season.
I’m really interested in how Ronaldo links up with Rashford. Even Cavani fell away when Rashford wasn’t there

I just feel Cavani is a better fit for Ole's setup than Ronaldo. He's even more effective when Rashford is alongside him as they can both press when required.

Well do you have a better suggestion? Because Donny isn't it.

Well my suggestion involves better coaching, Bruno being more of a third Midfielder than a striker and then with Pogba McTominay or Pogba Fred

All of our Midfields are failing so it's a coaching problem for the most part!

It's a team devoid of any creativity and guile barring Fernandes ,our front three are all goal scores it's quite unbalanced and I don't think you can expect much from Mcfred in terms of creativity either .
But it's kind of a team which Solskjaer find himself most comfortable putting out basically not trying to lose and if our attackers can make something out scraps they are fed on it's a job well done for Ole.
Rashford and Mason are also good sources of creativity, albeit they would be better if coached. Can’t disagree with the rest.
