Mourinho won't, but he's not the one taking to the field. The jury is out as to whether he can instil the right kind of mentality in the players in order for us to get something from this game. Sometimes things feel inevitable in football and I'd by lying if I didn't think this is one such occasion.

Don't get me wrong, if we were to produce a result, it'd be pivotal in our development as a Mourinho team.

I know city are a different beast but Jose still has shown how he can get the big results aka liverpool (h) and chelsea(h). I still think we were not bad when we faced them at OT, two silly mistakes by lukaku and a huge miss at the end meant we not only lost the match but lost the league. I still feel we can get something, but I agree with your other post that this game will show much bottle our players have.

Just don't park the bus. Is that too much to ask for? I'd rather lose but we actually give them a great game creating lots of chances and playing on front foot instead of parking the bus and losing anyway. What will we learn from parking the bus? The title is gone anyway and City will have one eye on CL game midweek.

Have to do everything in our powers to stop them from winning the title on Saturday.
    Whatever it takes.
Bring on the double decker and Fellaini.
Most important game of the season, lets spoil their party.
And yes, make no mistake, winning it against United will make it a lot sweeter for them.

I remember Chelsea having to beat us to win the league and battering us 3-0. Must have been the year before where we gave them a guard of honor at OT too. We also got done by Arsenal to lose the league to them at Old Trafford. These things can be positive for giving us the hunger to win things.

This'll confirm who has the bottle in our squad. You can bet your bottom dollar that there are one or two in our squad who'll be apprehensive all week about this game - fearing the worst. Whereas others will relish it. Sadly, I fear our squad is comprised of the former.

If anyone goes hiding in this game, it'll be curtains for them under Mourinho.

If ever there was time for Mourinho to instil his dogs of war mentality, it'd be now. I would not be adverse to this game turning into complete carnage, I'd sooner that than a feeble, tail-between-legs afternoon.
It will also confirm if the manager has the bottle to take them on. No more of the cowardly small club approach to big away games please.

City away is the one game we could understand extreme pragmatism as they are clearly the better team (not teams like Sevilla or the rest of the top 6)

Let's be honest in an open game we get hammered. If we were able to press and be as aggressive like Liverpool I would give us a chance in an open game but we haven't showed any such ability all season so starting with that against the best team in the league would be unreasonable to expect I feel.

    De Gea
    Valencia--Bailly--Smalling--Young
    Herrera--Matic--Pogba
    Lingard--Lukaku--Sanchez

    DEFEND

Martial & Rashford on at some point for fresh legs.

Lets hope we at least stop them winning it against us.

    This.

Lets say Lukaku makes a silly mistake again in this match, will you say he is the bottler?

if we were to produce a result, it'd be pivotal in our development as a Mourinho team.

I dont agree. Our low block style pays off sometimes, sometimes it does not. I do not think the result of this match will have any particular bearing on our future development as a team.

If the players aren't up for this there's something wrong with what They eat.

    De Gea
    Darmian Smalling Jones Lindelof Young
    Valencia Bailly Rojo Blind
    Shaw

    Back 5
    Tight midfield
    Big man upfront

I think Guardiola will be more focused on the Liverpool games either side of the derby. He might select a slightly weaker team.

We have the fire power up front to trouble their defence.

I can only see one result and that will be City winning whilst we use park the bus tactics that will make me cringe through the entire game.

    @edgar allan
Why would we take them on in this game of all games?
Park that bus and get the feck out of there!
    Why??
    1. Because for a start more times than not it doesn't work. Depending on luck for a result is never a sensible plan.
    2. Sitting back and inviting city on requires having world class defenders to hold out, we don't have them.
    3. We do however have a very strong attacking players if set up correctly. If you want to get a result you have to take them on.
    4. City have the distraction of the CL games.
    5. The game is not make or break for our top 4 place.
    5. Because we shouldn't be setting up like a cowardly small time team ever against City.
    6. Time to put a marker down for next season.

We are going to approach the game like all big away games.
Expecting anything different is a waste of time.

Of course. It's sad the extent Jose has already been able to lower the expectation levels of the supporters.

I think we'll score. Itll be about stopping them from scoring, and winning the league against us.

Mourinho has a habit of spoiling other teams' parties.

The worst thing for us will be when Pep fields a weakened team against us because they are in the champions league the next week.

If we then win the game, the commentators will say it is because it is a weakened team. If we lose, goodness knows what they will say.

In any case, I am firmly in the don't park the bus camp. I think we have to get on the front foot, move the ball quickly and have a real go.

So, we beat City, they draw their next game and lose to Spurs. Gap reduced to 8 with 4 to play. Title race back on.

It's not. Not for us anyway.

You realize City have dropped 9 points this season. From 31 matches. I thin it's pretty optimistic (to put it nicely) to think there is a remotely realistic chance they will drop twice that many points in 7 matches. And that's not even touching on the fact that United would have to suddenly win every single match.

We have got to forget about the league standings and just get on with the game.

I reckon we won't see much change in the way we play apart from all our players being 100% up for it!

    Think we will go 433

    de Gea
    Valencia Bailly Smalling Young
    McTominay Matic Pogba
    Mata Lukaku Sanchez

    Maybe Lingard for Mata.

Believe. It's going to be amazing when we lift the league on the final day - Lukakuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu.

    We'll claim a thoroughly meaningless 1-0 win.

It’s all about bragging rights mate. If they win the title against us then we won’t hear the last of it for years and years to come.

Them winning the title is inevitable, but we can at least delay the inevitable for another day.

I don’t think a win would be meaningless. Firstly they wouldn’t win the title against us but more importantly it would be a good morale booster when we have one eye on next season already, and it would consolidate second place. I personally don’t think we’re as far off as many do and a win would give players some belief. Can’t underestimate finishing a season strongly, just ask city.
