We can follow in the footsteps of the likes of Blackburn Rovers, Leicester City and Bolton Wanderers and come away with at least a draw there in 2015.

We have nothing to be afraid of. They are a good side but they are not great. It's a good job they think we are shite, they struggle to put away the shite at Anfield.
Or, they will have the energy of a team playing in a cup final like they do every time we go there, and we will turn up with seemingly no sense of the occasion, and they will turn us over or be very lucky not to. That's what usually happens.

Assuming Pool plays with 3 at the back, i would go with something similar to our home win against them.

    De Gea
    Jones Smalling Rojo
    Valencia Herrera Carrick Young
    Mata
    Wilson Rooney
We can quickly change to a 4-2-3-1 if needed. No matter what, alot will come down to how our defence handles the pressure from Liverpool.

Something like this but I'd play Blind instead of Rojo and Fellaini instead of Wilson. Actually, that was our line-up today, never mind. ;)

Liverpool always play well against us in front of their own fans. My rational mind says that we will likely lose. I'll take a point.

That isn't Liverpools badge anymore. Well not on their kit anyway...

I say keep the same team, or slightly change it with Shaw in for Blind if we're worried about pace.

    Manchester United last 12 away games = W6 D5 L1
    Liverpool last 12 home games = W6 D6 L0
Seems like a draw is most likely result, but I really like the thought of changing that 0 to a 1 :D

A bit more condifendt after today but they're at home and in a good form so a point would be a good result.
Win would be brilliant of course. :)

We've won 4 of our 14 away games this season, so winning 6 of the last 12 can't be right. You sure it's not just last 12 games in general?

I would take a draw anyway.

    Last 35 games
    Manchester United wins: 18
    Liverpool wins: 15
    Draws: 2
All time league results at Anfield
    Liverpool 39 wins
    United 23 wins
    19 draws
    Premier League results at Anfield
    Liverpool 8 wins
    United 10 wins :D
    4 draws

All time head to head in the league
United 64 wins (let's make it 65 and get a 10 win lead )
    Liverpool 55 wins
    44 draws

Last season they won 3-0 away and 1-0 at home.
This season we win 3-0 at home and 1-0 away? :p

I cant think of the last time we played well at Anfield. Even our wins there have usually been scabby.

We put in a good defensive display in a tight 1-0 win in 07/08. Last time we beat them and played clearly better was actually in 04/05 (1-0 win). Keane and Scholes totally controlled the midfield and even Benitez said 'they showed how to play midfield' or words to that effect.
Anfield is a tough place to go, they hate us remember.

Since Premier League started. Our biggest win at Anfield is 3-1 and their biggest win at Anfield is 3-1.

Looking at the votes for match result, it amuses me that a greater number of people thought we'd lose to Spurs than think we're gonna lose to Liverpool. Not that anyone's getting carried away!

Maybe we can catch Liverpool out tactically. These are the games that LVG could earn his corn, away to a team who will be looking for the win. It's set up like a second leg European tie in a way.

If we plan to counter attack them Di Maria has to start for his pace alone. If we go there to try an control the game same team as yesterday.

I think we are capable of winning but I would bite your hand off for a point hopefully Swansea get something out of them today.

Hoping Pool play attacking football and we could do the same. At least gives us a good chance of outscoring them.
I would like us to put a win at Anfield. Histroy is not with us much at Anfield, but then many teams have broken us at home breaking old records. Time for us to do the same.

    Big questions:

    Should we play ADM?
Will Mata find a spot if ADM is playing?

Exactly my thinking as well, Louie will be relishing this tie.

I think Pool will win against Swansea comfortably today and we will have a game to watch out next weekend..

As long as Pool drop points either against swans or us, we should not be worried. That will mean they will be at least 1 point behind us (more if they drop points against us) with 8 games remaining. Out of their last 8 games they have 5 away fixtures which include chelsea, arsenal and stoke. Our run should not count as any tougher then theirs looking just at last 8 games (they will also need to get 2 more points than us, given our better GD)

I think if we try to sit back they will make it difficult for us considering our defense has 'errors' written all over it. If Swans take something off liverpool, I think we should go and play an attacking game. If they win against swans then we can play a more cautious game focusing on counters.

I dont know why we want Stevie G to start.. He might have been in crap form, but he has a tendency to score against us. Especially he ll score 100% if they get a spot kick.

Hope we can nick the win, but a draw would be a great result here. We've got a lot of tough games coming up though, so we do need to start winning some. Hard to forget we have City and Chelsea in succession, so even a draw here (if Liverpool beat Swansea) could see us out of the top four for the run-in if we fail to beat the teams currently above us...

Will be interesting to see if Pool still try to press, if we play the same XI I think Pool would struggle.

valencias silly back pass aside we've been pretty solid at the back for a while now, i'm confident we won't lose there
score first and i fancy us to win it

For once I actually believe we should try and play according to the philosophy (this is what I'm calling possession based boring football from now on). Yesterday vs Spurs we played pretty much press press press and attack attack attack in the first half and then we played 'philosophy' in the second half.

For Anfield I believe we should go for the philosophy from the start but at the same time do what Mourinho did to them last year. Time wasting from the start of the match. Frustrate them at EVERY opportunity. They will want to come out of the blocks flying and attacking to blow us away. If we make it through the first half of that then they will have less energy in the second half. Disrupt their rhythm. We must do enough to null their attacking intent by setting up like Fergie used to set up in away Champions League ties.

We could bring on Di Maria as a sub. I have a feeling his pace will be useful in the second half for a counter attack.

Same Formation as against Spurs, no changes. Blind was a 'world class' left back for the Netherlands so for now he should be our best option there.
