There's very little riding on this for either side beyond the bragging rights.

In the 80s it was the same and United very often got a positive result.

A repeat of the 3-3 Strachan cigar celebration match would be good. Liverpool won the league that season by a mile.

I'd play a full team of U23s with the message being, United are resting the first team players for more meaningful matches.

The scousers would absolutely hate this.

I think they'd just laugh at the fact they are about 20 pts clear of us and we're prioritising minor competitions whereas they're about to win the PL. We shouldn't be this petty, we're already being laughed at by them - it's time to take ownership of our situation, and hold our hands up instead of trying to manipulate the situation to make ourselves look better.
That's a very 'wilderness Liverpool' route to take.

I hope you are joking but I don't think any scousers would hate putting 6 or 7 goals past us If you decided to put out the U23's. That will do no youngsters any good.

What's our record defeat at Anfield? I believe this will be broken on Sunday unfortunately :(

Would they? They'd probably be pissing themselves that they are so far ahead of us in the league and we are so certain we wouldn't beat them, that we are resting all our players in order to prioritize our shitty top 4 battle. That's the attitude a relegation-threatened Wolves had at OT a few years ago. I don't think Scousers would hate that in the slightest.

I honestly think we’ll win on Sunday, which is not a feeling I’ve had against much lesser opposition this and the past few seasons!

Form largely goes out of the window anyway for these huge one off games, they’re like cup finals.

Liverpool aren’t really even playing that well, grinding out 1-0’s here and there and our attack is out scoring theirs.

Defensively they are superior yes, but we are pretty good right now too.

If Rashford is fit and we defend as a solid unit, we’ll upset them for sure.

    I’m predicting 0-2.

Newton Heath lost 7-1 in 1895. As Manchester United, it's a 5-0 defeat in 1925.

It probably won't be broken. Liverpool rarely thump teams these days and we tend to be relatively resilient in these games. I expect a 3-0 or something.

I fear the worst going into this game, I think we could be 3 or 4 down by half-time similar to the City game. I don't think I have ever have less hope going to their dump of a ground before. Usually look forward to it but can't wait until 6:30 on Sunday to be over.

Well, consider yourself lucky: living on the continent, I'll have to wait until 19:30 to be done with it.

I think we can hold them to a draw and be the only team that the formidable Liverpool couldn't beat.

Liverpool are invincible at the moment. If they score first, I can see Untied players heads dropping and starting to play panic football.

4-1 to Liverpool. With Rashford and Maguire coming off injured with no subs left.

Incredibly Liverpool have only won 1 of the last 11 PL fixtures against us and only 2 out of the last 13 if you include all competitions. Crazy stat considering how poor we've been for a large amount of this period.

Not that crazy if you remember they finished 8th as recently as 2016.

They've been obviously on the right track since Klopp's appointment but it's really only since 2018 that they've been clearly superior to United.

Do we think Ole will go with the back 3 again?

My only doubt is cos that will probably mean Phil Jones playing :nervous:

I agree, we need to go full strength to chase our objective of top four this year. They're by far and away better than us at the moment, vying for top prizes, but feck them.

They've beaten us just once in the league since they thumped us 3-0 at OT under Moyes. That's an appalling record in fairness.

I can't see anything other than 4-0 for them.

We are so weak, tired and not solid at all, when they have exactly the opposite form, quality and belief.

Even with our pretended best XI we would loose, so let alone the side that "played" against Wolves.

Just hard because all of the runners for the top 4 will win points so that will be a tough weekend for us.

    ---------------------------------------De Gea------------------------------------
    -------------------Lindelof-------Maguire--------Jones-----------------
    AWB------------------------Fred-----------Matic------------------Williams
    ----------------------------------------Pereira------------------------------------
    --------------Rashford/James----------Martial-------------------------

I can see us conceding a goal on set pieces, and having Williams sent off
You’re great fun to be around I’d say watching Utd.

Can only see us getting a thumping. The exact scoreline really depends on how much damage they want to do. 3-0 is just a staring point as fair as I believe

30 years - Liverpool will have to wait another 25 years without United winning the league again before they can ever throw anything similar at united fans

For now they will instead just throw bricks at the United players' coach to show how classy they are.

Keown today said that it could be a disaster for United. Thinks it could be 4/5-0 but than went to predict 3-0 . Also there was no chance with Rashford but without him no chance.

Have to say it won't be a massacre but can't see us getting anything there.

Not too sure why this sort of thing is allowed to be honest. Fans will be high on adrenaline (and who knows what else), and crowd mentality tends to bring out the worst in people.

What a bunch of cretins. They're top of the league because they've got one of the best sides in Europe and a top manager, not because they lob a few bricks at a bus every now and then. Get over yourselves!

Things like this just detract from all the positives to admire (not that I could actually bring myself to do that) about their team at the moment and just fuel the negative stereotypes around football fans, let alone scousers.

Save it for inside the stadium where the atmosphere might actually help your team, you silly cnuts!

Our defence makes at least three mistakes a game, they will dunk on us. Afraid it's going to be 3-1 to Liverpool.

No reason to panic, they should be used to conceding and losing games.

I have faith that they can keep the scoreline respectable. There is obviously zero doubt that Liverpool will win but I believe it won't be a humiliation.

Can we put Williams at rightback for this? Just so he can clatter Robertson. That'll be worth a win for me.
